The world folded.
Not collapsed—rearranged.
Aiden felt his stomach drop as gravity twisted sideways. Light stretched into thin lines, then shattered.
He hit the ground hard.
Rolled.
Stopped.
Cold stone under his palms.
Different stone.
He pushed himself up slowly, senses on edge.
The air smelled clean. Too clean. No blood. No rot. No monsters screaming in the dark.
Torches lined the walls of a vast circular hall. Polished. Maintained.
Aiden's eyes narrowed.
"…Academy."
The System flickered back to life.
[TRANSFER COMPLETE]
[LOCATION: AEGIS ACADEMY — SUBLEVEL REVIEW HALL]
[USER STATUS: E-0 (PROVISIONAL)]
Footsteps echoed.
Dozens of them.
Figures emerged from the shadows—adults, not students. Uniforms marked with silver insignias. Their ranks glowed calmly, steadily.
High ranks.
Aiden didn't need the System to tell him that.
At the center of the hall stood a raised platform.
And on it—
Three chairs.
Two were occupied.
One was empty.
A woman in dark formal armor leaned back in her seat, eyes sharp as knives. Her rank tag pulsed faintly.
A-7
The man beside her was older, scarred, expression unreadable.
S-1
Aiden's jaw tightened.
So this is who watches.
The woman spoke first.
"Aiden Vale," she said coolly. "Former Rank Zero. Current anomaly."
Aiden didn't bow.
Didn't kneel.
He met her gaze.
"Nice room," he said. "You kidnap all your students like this?"
A murmur rippled through the hall.
The S-1 raised a hand. Silence fell instantly.
"You survived an Executioner," he said. His voice was calm. Heavy. "You were marked by a Primal Warden. You led unranked students against a floor reset."
He leaned forward slightly.
"That should be impossible."
Aiden shrugged. "I've had a weird week."
The woman's lips twitched despite herself.
Then she gestured to the empty chair.
"Sit."
Aiden didn't move.
"Am I on trial," he asked, "or am I being recruited?"
The S-1 studied him.
"…Both."
The System chimed softly.
[NOTICE: ACADEMY OVERRIDE ACTIVE]
[USER RIGHTS LIMITED]
Aiden sighed.
"Figures."
He walked forward and sat in the empty chair.
The platform rose.
The hall lights dimmed.
The woman leaned in.
"From this moment," she said, "your progress will no longer be hidden."
Aiden's chest mark warmed.
"Every instructor will see you."
"Every Ranker will measure you."
"And every Executioner still loyal to the System will want you dead."
The S-1's gaze hardened.
"You wanted recognition, Aiden Vale."
The platform locked into place.
"Congratulations," he said. "You have it."
The System delivered one final line—quiet, ominous.
[ACADEMY ARC: INITIATED]
Aiden leaned back in his chair, eyes sharp.
"…Let's see who breaks first."
