Allyson's POV
The pieces crashed together in my mind like thunder.
Everything suddenly clicked into place. Michael's cold exterior, his walls, the bitter hatred between him and Kenneth.
Kenneth had been telling me about his friend who caught him with a woman, but he never finished saying the name because Michael walked in. Now I knew why.
The betrayal wasn't just about cheating. It was about his best friend sleeping with his wife.
Michael's face had gone stone cold, but I could see the old wounds bleeding through the cracks. Years of buried pain surfaced in his dark eyes.
"Michael, I'm so sorry-"
"Don't." His voice cut through the air like a blade. "I don't want your pity."
He straightened, his jaw rigid. "That night created the man you say is so cold and unfeeling. I used to love without reservation, and it destroyed me."
My chest tightened at the raw honesty in his words.
