POV: Aurora
When we return to the room, everyone is already seated.
Lina returns to her chair at the back, with her badge crooked and a look on her face that says, "If this blows up, I'm running with you." I hold her gaze for a second. Then I sit down.
Dante takes his place to my right, half a step behind me. The central screen still displays "Vega Case - Clinical Summary." I feel like slapping it off.
The Council president taps the table.
"Let's resume," he says. "After the recess, the Council has a proposal.
The vampire with the perfect smile leans toward the microphone.
"We recognize that Miss Vega is no longer 'an isolated case,'" she begins. "Her situation combines clinical, occupational, and political factors. We therefore propose creating a technical committee to review protocols for highly sensitive omegas, in which Miss Vega will participate as a consultant."
Consultant. A nice word for "we're using you."
A human in a gray suit takes over.
