"What a hassle!"
Finney hadn't expected to go through all that trouble to open a shop on the Upper East Side, only to encounter something like this. New York City was clearly not a place for ordinary people.
And it was also his own fault; if he hadn't conjured three Violet Chicken Wraps out of thin air, he could have just dumped them at the police station.
Actually, upon closer reflection, Finney realized the two robbers hadn't noticed anything unusual. When he was smearing the chicken wraps in their faces, the robber was preparing to draw his gun, his gaze fixed on his chest, so he hadn't seen the wraps appear out of thin air.
The other robber was lying on the ground, so he couldn't see them either. As for Skye, Finney hadn't observed her closely enough to be sure if she'd seen it, but it didn't seem to affect her much.
Judging from her tense appearance, she probably hadn't fully recovered yet.
With a somewhat frustrated sigh, Finney finally decided to let them go, but before that, he needed to make sure they weren't sent by someone else.
"Why did you rob our store?"
"Because we're broke!"
"..."
This answer left Finney speechless, while Skye, standing beside him, angrily retorted, "If you're broke, why don't you rob a bank? Why rob us?!"
"We can't beat a bank!"
This remark made Skye even angrier, and she couldn't help but kick one of the robbers. Strictly speaking, this store belonged to her, although Finney was the main source of income.
After confirming that they weren't sent by someone else, Finney felt much more at ease. He sternly warned them about the rules of this area, made them leave their guns, and prepared to leave.
"You'll forget about today's events as soon as possible and become good people in the future."
Before sending them away, Finney used the 'Golden Great Evolution Technique' to control the two men. Given their current fear of him, barring any unforeseen circumstances, they would basically forget about it by tomorrow.
After watching the two leave, Skye's first action was to lock the outer door. She let out a long sigh of relief, then asked hesitantly, "Is it alright to just let them go like this?"
"No problem,"
Finney nodded with a smile. He had already secretly cleaned up the three chicken nugget wraps and the security camera footage from the ground.
"Finney..."
Just as Finney was thinking about how to persuade Skye not to tell her parents about today's events, she heard Skye tremble and say, "Just now... I think I suddenly saw..."
"Three...three..."
"Three chicken nugget wraps, right!"
Finney sighed, taking over the conversation. He looked at her intently, considering the changes the world would undergo in the coming year and her problems, and finally said, "You didn't see wrong, and I did it."
Skye's already pale face paled even more. She first took a trembling step back, then leaned closer, asking fearfully, "Finney, are you...are you an alien?
I'm a pure Earthling, but you might have some alien genes. "
Finney muttered to himself, rolled his eyes, and said irritably, "What do you think?"
"I...I..."
Seeing Skye stammering and unable to speak, Finney couldn't help but sigh. If he hadn't already known about the situation in this world, he probably wouldn't have reacted much better than Skye in this situation.
"Don't worry, I'm Finney Hellscythe, a pure Earthling. This is just one of my special abilities, like this."
Finney casually summoned a Violet Chicken Wrap and handed it to her.
Skye took the chicken wrap dumbly, looked down at the food in her hand, then at Finney, opened her mouth, seemingly unsure what to say.
Since she'd already been discovered, Finney didn't try to hide anything further, continuing, "Didn't you want to know why Brian fell this afternoon?"
"You can think of that as one of my superpowers."
"Superpowers!?"
Skye's eyes widened, like a cute little kitten. As a hacker, she'd always felt the world held few secrets for her, but at this moment, she suddenly felt utterly ignorant.
"Hmm."
Finney nodded, walked to the sofa, sat down, and beckoned Skye over.
Skye sat down without thinking much of it and asked, "Do Mom and Dad know?"
"Only you know right now."
Finney leaned back on the soft sofa, turned to look at Skye seriously, and said, "Skye, now that you know, I'll be blunt. This world is dangerous, so don't investigate strange things online; it'll cause trouble."
"Are there many people with superpowers like you?"
Having overcome her fear, Skye began to feel curious, because she realized Finney was still the same Finney, except she had discovered one more secret about her.
"And, is your superpower just making people fall down and making chicken wraps? Anything else? When did you discover it?"
Skye, like a curious child, pressed on before Finney could answer, "Do you know any other people with superpowers?"
Hearing these questions, Finney scratched her head in exasperation, thought for a moment, and then began to answer one by one: "I feel there are quite a few people in this world with special abilities."
"Abilities are probably innate, and I don't know any other people with superpowers yet."
After answering, Finney looked at Skye seriously and reiterated, "Skye, don't think I'm joking, this world is really dangerous."
"People like us have never appeared in society and caused any impact, which undoubtedly means there's an organization or force controlling everything, possibly a country."
"If you don't want me to be taken away for research and experiments, you'd better keep this a secret."
"No way..."
Hearing Finney's words, Skye immediately showed a worried expression, but she didn't dare gamble on such a possibility, and earnestly promised, "I won't tell anyone."
Then, as if remembering something, she hurriedly said, "What about those two from earlier..."
"It's alright, they didn't notice."
Finney was already feeling the 'Golden Grand Evolution Technique' gradually taking effect. If nothing unexpected happened, the two of them would be able to forget everything that happened today and turn over a new leaf.
Seeing Finney say this, Skye could only suppress her worries and silently pray that the two wouldn't tell anyone.
The air gradually quieted down. Skye, still somewhat worried about being exposed, didn't press further, while also thinking about how to help if something went wrong.
Meanwhile, Finney's attention shifted to something else: the experience bar of the extraction system was full!
He could start his third extraction!
Sigh, too bad, too bad, nobody's reading this...
