"Right, exactly," Buck said with a delayed chuckle. "We barely know her anyway."
Collin's brow furrowed as he processed this. 'Ms. Brent is supposedly their adopted daughter. So why are they acting like she's some charity case?' Finding no useful information here, he decided to wrap things up. Rising from his seat, he gave a courteous nod. "Well, if we're done here, I'll leave you to your evening."
Linda kept firing urgent looks at Buck, desperately trying to get him to convince Collin to stick around.
Right as Collin headed for the exit, Buck caught his sleeve. "Mr. Shaw, it's rare we get to see you. How about staying for dinner? Let us return some of your kindness," Buck said, practically dripping with sycophantic charm.
Collin yanked his arm free, his expression stone-cold. "That's not necessary. I've got business to handle. Appreciate the gesture though, Mr. Bernard."
