Chapter 5 - Chapter 4

When Jay burst into the open space, he saw a system window pop up behind him.

[Warning: Moving to the target location is within enemy range. The system estimates the survival probability to be less than 0.0001%]

[Instruction: Upon arriving at the target location (41.05, 115.60), move 2.1m to the right]

He ignored the warning and ran.

His legs were already covered in blood, but the system's instructions were absolute.

The moment he reached the target location, two pursuers swung their warhammers almost simultaneously.

With a deafening roar, the hammers sliced through the air, and the shockwave struck Jay's clothes.

The instant his feet touched the target location, Jay ignored the tearing pain in his right leg muscles and lunged to the right.

2.1 meters.

It was the exact distance the system had instructed.

CRASH!

The warhammers swung by the two pursuers struck the exact spot where he had just been standing.

It wasn't just a simple blow.

When the enchanted warhammers struck, the concrete floor exploded upwards.

And the old shop shutter that Jay had punched moments before collapsed.

"Aaaargh!"

The two pursuers, without a chance to look back, were trapped by the collapsing shutter, building debris, and exploding concrete fragments.

Taking advantage of the dust and debris rising from the wreckage, Sung-jin used his last remaining strength to get up.

Jay gasped for breath, showered in the dust and debris rising from the wreckage. The spot where he stood was an open space, just a few meters from where his followers had fallen moments before.

What he saw was the perfect result of an inefficient war of attrition, calculated by the system.

Two of his followers were completely buried under shutters and building debris.

The explosive impact from the consecrated warhammer striking the ground had acted as a catalyst, shattering the remaining structural integrity of the old shutters, which he had already weakened with a prior strike.

This wasn't just a simple ambush.

The system had calculated Jay's escape trajectory, and designed a chain of traps, taking into account the weight distribution of the followers' weapons, the point of impact, and the propagation speed of the shockwave.

He had used his own body as bait, turning the enemy's most powerful weapon against themselves.

Jay didn't hesitate.

Even before the system issued its next instruction, he dragged his injured leg and approached the debris.

Although already incapacitated, these were followers of a god.

In this world of embers, even a moment of hesitation could have fatal consequences.

He drew his dagger.

This dull-bladed dagger was his last weapon.

Jay plunged the dagger towards the neck of the first follower, who was pinned under the debris and unable to move.

The dagger was insufficient to penetrate the armor reinforced by the consecrated warhammer.

However, the follower's neck protection, crushed by fragments and building debris, was already too damaged to be effective. The dull blade of the dagger deeply cut into the follower's carotid artery.

"Gah...!"

With a short groan, the follower's body convulsed. Jay quickly drew his dagger and turned towards the second follower.

The second follower was struggling to get up, barely managing to move one arm amidst the rubble.

"You...infidel! You..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Jay plunged the dagger into a narrow gap in the second follower's armor, at the point where the helmet and neck guard met.

This, too, was likely a calculated weak point attack guided by the system.
