Chapter 7 - The Outbreak

TW Explosion (I mean literally, not a Pokemon's move)

In this world there are questions.

Why do we live? What's the meaning of all of this? Does Arceus exist?

And unfortunately no one finds answers for them. People are still looking, trying to find the solution. Or they find the solution within themselves, sometimes being unaware of that. Just living their lives.

However there were also more sensible questions. Those have answers but both appear way too late. Mostly at the moment we came up with the realization that such questions have to be asked.

Like for example:

Who in the Distortion World keeps stolen goods in the research lab?

Reatrei understands that part of Team Rocket is far from being reasonable yet she was also pretty sure that this part she belonged to had common sense.

Yet they hadn't had any common sense. Because right now every single person in Caledon City's lab is dead. Strangled.

And she belonged to them. Because it was Reatrei who strangled them all and escaped from Celadon City's lab. She hid in one of the crates with smuggled goods which were supposed to be taken to Pallet Town and from there shipped to Alola.

The crucial phrase was that they were supposed to, but only if in the crates Reatrei traveled were smuggled goods. And for sure they weren't. Naturally it brings another question. If the things weren't transported to Alola, then where would they travel to?

"Fuchsia City." The muffled voice of the driver could be heard.

Reatrei immediately leans in, trying to hear the conversation. The crate she was in was full of holes. Small enough to not let the materials slip away but big enough to hear everything from the outside.

"Fuchsia City?" A voice repeated after him.

Her breath fastened. Could it be customs inspection? But she was pretty sure they didn't leave Caledon City such a long time ago…

"Yeah." The driver confirmed. "Supply delivery to PokeMart."

That would explain why in the crate she was in were so many Escape Ropes. Reatrei presume it's just a usual delivery for Team Rocket but it may work as a cover as well.

But there was a something else. The truck doesn't start a journey from Fuchsia City. Also it don't go through it. Truly, Reatrei didn't see the whole harmonogram but knows the map of Kanto. If at some point the truck indeed arrived at Fuchsia City it would be easier and faster to travel towards Pallet Town by ship already. Or even start sailing directly from Fuchsia City to the Alola region.

The next thing she heard was a crack of a closed crate. Perhaps the other man was inspecting the things.

"You may go."

And they do. To some unknown direction. The driver knowing that he was able to cheat the other man and Reatrei with the knowledge that her plan spectacularly falls apart.

Yet she decided not to run away. Not yet. It may spoil her temporary hideout. Or worse, let Team Rocket get her back.

So she waited patiently. And long.

She heard complaints of those who were unfortunate to put out the crates with extra content. Of course not because she was heavy or something like that.

When everything gets quiet, she decides to unlock the crate from inside. It wasn't difficult. Most likely because it wasn't locked at all.

The room was dark. It took her a moment to get used to the darkness but when she did, before her eyes appeared shelves. Multiple ones. With Poké Balls arranged in rows. It was pretty obvious they were stolen goods.

Reatrei took a glance at the crates. So if their content was different, what could they include?

After a short inspection she noticed that some crates have the label which inform, the content is fragile and could easily be broken.

"Glass?" She mutters to herself.

But Reatrei doesn't have enough time to make a detailed inspection. She has to get out of here. Wherever 'here' is. It was reckless trying to find a way in some unknown territory, without a knowledge where cameras are placed.

Perhaps even here and right now Team Rocket spies on her every move. Because she has no doubts, that's Team Rocket's hideout. Most likely even now some people are rushing there, to stop the unexpected stranger.

That's why Reatrei goes towards the metal shelves and tries to overthrow them. It took some time, but eventually one of the shelves moved, overthrowing the other one. And another. The room fills up with the sounds of crashing, rain of Poké Balls and flashing light of releasing Pokémon.

At this moment Reatrei realized she made a mistake. The Pokémon don't stop to think about the situation. With roars and growls the wild crowd rushes into the only exit from the room, trampling the girl who released them.

Reatrei falls down, feeling the fur, claws, and horns scratching and hurting her skin. Even as she tries to stand up, she gets back to her knees overwhelmed by the rushing creatures. But eventually manages to, noticing the multiple bruises on her skin.

"Humans are pitifully weak." She mutters to herself walking outside the room.

The fact Pokémon spread over large spaces makes the crowd less overwhelming. A little less. Because in the end the halls were crowded as well filled with rampaging monsters whose attacks were thrown anywhere.

Part of her stolen lab coat was set on fire by a Fireball, but in the next moment put out by Water Pulse. She sighs with irritation.

"I could be the best strategist." Reatrei said to herself, avoiding a Shadow Ball rushing to her direction. "But outside the battlefield."

Yet it also has a good side. Right now her clothes definitely don't resemble usual human clothes. No one could say that those scraps of white clothing (which isn't even white now) were once a lab coat. Consequently no one could point out that Reatrei came from some lab.

But despite the fact that her doings weren't the best, it definitely has some certain pros. The crowd of Pokémon operate just like any crowd. Panicked, desperate, without much thinking and possibility to be mastered. Sooner or later during that rush the creatures would discover an exit. And when it happens, every single monster would rush towards it like mad without any chance to stop them.

Nevertheless for now it doesn't happen. So the only thing she could do was try to avoid being trampled again, or struck by attack. There already could be heard multiple voices, desperate tries to stop the flock. Team Rocket's grunts indeed managed to stop some monsters but were knocked down by the other ones.

Among the chaos, Reatrei was able to move unnoticed. Until one voice catches her attention.

"Persian, use Fury Swipes!"

Her breath got caught in her throat. Even the crowds seem to slow down, evading the one particular person just like a river flowing around the rock.

Giovanni. Team Rocket's boss.

She has no idea how the man suddenly appeared here, but does it matter? He was here.

And it seems he also noticed Reatrei. Giovanni's gaze focuses on the only human among this whole crowd. She could hear her beating heart as the man emerged from it. Even the Pokémon seem to part only to allow the man to pass.

And at this moment she feels quite envious that she doesn't have the same ability. It would make everything way easier.

"You." His voice didn't blare but even without this it was easy to hear. "It was you who freed them."

Not a question. Just a state of a fact.

"Indeed." She confirmed trying to sound calm. "It was me."

But right now Reatrei was pretty sure that Giovanni could hear her heartbeat. Unlike her voice, which was drowned by the noises around. Again she regrets the lack of charisma.

"Have you got the courage to at least introduce yourself, brat?" Giovanni asks.

Brat? Well, surely she's quite young. But brat?

"You can call me Reatrei." She said despite the fact that the blood froze in her veins.

And then she reminds herself that humans rarely use their full names if they have a long one. Usually they make some kind of abbreviation.

"Or just Rea." She adds.

"So Rea then." Giovanni's calm voice echoed through the metallic walls, even despite the general clamor. "Consider it as your last action."

The Persian rushed at her with Fury Swipes. Rea crouched, risking being trampled, but she also saw something else. One of the free Arcanine throwed Fireball at Persian. The cat creature let out a groan as it was send to the ground.

Rea thanked the Pokémon with a simple nod of her head. And noticed with a surprise that the Arcanine wasn't the only monster who considered Rea as its savior and wanted to help her. There were many more. And it made her get another idea. A more outrageous one.

"Make a disarray!" She shouts. "Noises, smoke… everything!"

It was hard to say if the Pokémon understood. Most likely not and they just came back to what they did before. But it was actually according to her plan.

She closed her eyes due to the smoke. She tries to forget about the noise and focus only on the mental plan. Which was also a chaos but right now Rea has to forget about it. She has to keep calm. Focus on the surroundings.

Metal walls. And behind them, there was a lot of free space. And even considering everything that goes on in the room, the walls stay unmoved. But they could move. Only if the space was filled. Only if reality was stretched to the point the walls couldn't keep up.

Being a Mewtwo in disguise was definitely advantageous in such a situation. Calming her breath, Rea uses her psychic powers to fill up the space. Make her own conscience something that could fill it. Something fulfilling to the point that walls wouldn't be able to hold it.

Only the whites of her eyes could be seen when Rea opened them. And with only a simple gesture the space was blown from the inside.

She heard the screams. Growls. Cries. The ruthless catastrophe absorbed not only human lives but Pokémon as well.

As the dust slowly subsided, followed by the fire sparks accompanied by the groans of those who don't die immediately, Rea realizes three things.

First, Team Rocket wanted to make a monster. And they did. Right now Mewtwo was a ruthless murderer, the one who got rid of lives of both humans and Pokémon only in order to get her own gain.

Secondly, Team Rocket don't have this monster any longer. She learns how to change form into a human one and thanks to that finally escapes. She blew this hideout out and could consider herself as a free Pokémon.

Third? Team Rocket's boss may have seen this.
