Hearing that the museum's other staff had already died, Lux relaxed. The security chief wouldn't report that the museum had been emptied—after all, that wasn't his job.
He started considering whether to engage too much with these people. His mind had been focused solely on calculating the museum's yield, not on how to handle survivors.
For now, there was plenty of time to consider that.
HK416 checked all five and found no injuries, then lowered her gun.
"What… you're not from the government? Then why do you have guns?"
Another middle-aged man, about forty, exclaimed in shock, then expressed disbelief.
"That's none of your business. The zombies inside the museum have been cleared. Consider it a gift. Farewell."
Lux turned to leave. With 340,000 resource points in hand, he urgently needed a safe place to use a 50,000-point genetic modification serum to strengthen himself, then draw a tactical doll to expand his standing—there was no reason to deal with these survivors.
"Wait! Could you give me some food? I've been hungry for two days. I'll even pay."
The pink-OL woman stepped forward to grab Lux's clothes, but MDR already had her gun aimed at the woman's forehead, freezing her in place.
"No need for money. As fellow survivors, I can leave you some food—but not much, I don't have much myself."
Lux pressed MDR's gun down and smiled kindly.
His principle was simple: don't harm others if they don't harm him. If humans could survive a little longer, it wasn't a bad thing.
Taking out his backpack, he handed two buckets of instant noodles and three bags of puffed snacks to the OL woman.
"Thank you… I'm truly grateful," she said, moved.
Lux smiled. This meal would only restore a small portion of strength for these five.
"Can you give us some more food?"
Seeing the food in the OL woman's hands, Bob swallowed hard and looked at Lux pleadingly.
"That's the food I'm giving you," Lux said, pointing at the noodles on the table.
"Are you joking? This little bit for five people isn't enough! There must be a lot in her two bags."
The sexy girl next to Drake got angry, intending to snatch the food from Lux, but the dark muzzle of HK416's gun stopped her. She could feel the resolve emanating from HK416—one more step and the trigger would be pulled without hesitation.
The OL woman paled. She had thought she would have a full meal—this was barely enough for five.
"Sorry, Lala is still a naive girl. Don't mind her," Bob said apologetically, pulling the girl back.
"No problem. In this situation outside, everyone's struggling. Farewell for now."
Lux turned to leave.
He immediately saw that Bob maintained this small group, while the two troublemakers were clearly bad news. He had no intention of getting involved.
Having only spoken a few sentences, Lux didn't consider ordering HK416 to kill anyone.
"Hey, young man… hey, young man… don't go yet. It's almost noon. You should find a safe place to eat too."
"We still have hot water in the water dispenser. Can you rest here for a bit, have some instant noodles, and tell us about the situation outside?"
"We promise not to ask anything we shouldn't."
Seeing that none of the three were in police uniforms and that their weapons differed, Bob realized Lux hadn't lied. From the actions of the two armed girls, it was clear Lux had the initiative.
This gave Bob some relief; of the three, only Lux seemed reasonable.
Having seen the boy cut down two zombies with a katana from the waist, he didn't dare underestimate him.
"Alright… then fine, we'll just borrow some water."
Lux hesitated briefly, then stepped into the director's office.
This area was indeed safe, and with HK416 and MDR guarding, the survivors couldn't do anything even if they tried.
A moment to use a dose of genetic modification serum wasn't a bad choice.
The OL had already filled the water and noodles, proving the water was clean.
"Hahaha, young man, you're so generous sharing food with us. Borrowing water? Nonsense!"
Bob laughed easily.
"Ohhh! Finally time to eat! Miss MDR has been waiting so long!"
MDR shouted excitedly.
Lux sat on the sofa and pulled two bowls of instant noodles from his backpack, which immediately sagged.
The people in the office realized Lux was indeed generous.
Bob looked at Lux's bloodied, bandaged hands while he prepared noodles, then glanced at MDR and HK416.
"Young man, if you don't mind, let me help you with the noodles. You two don't need to put down your guns; I know you don't trust us."
"But while you watch me make noodles, I can't secretly slip you any sleeping drugs, right?"
"Much obliged, Unc Bob."
Lux didn't explain further, smiling.
Given MDR's earlier confusion over distinguishing cola from toilet cleaner, she probably had no clue how to prepare noodles. HK416, as an elite tactical doll, likely had no life skill modules… hence she hadn't stepped in. Even if they had learning modules, Lux had never prepared instant noodles in front of them, so they were helpless.
