Chapter 36 - Decision

Fulen instantly felt like a fool, so he added, "Sorry, I'm not questioning your character. How about this: whoever lives closest to 34 Koson Street, tell me your estimated travel time to that villa."

Ashley, Connie, and Newme each stated their walking times: half an hour, an hour, and forty-five minutes, respectively. Of course, these times were from when they finished their previous cleaning task to Koson Street.

Thinking that it wasn't easy for these ladies to work so hard every day, running around to clean, he then asked, "How long does it take each of you to get home from my villa? Honestly, I don't wish for beautiful ladies like yourselves to work so strenuously, running back and forth."

Such nauseating words, which even gave Fulen goosebumps, were not spoken unconsciously. Fulen merely wanted to truly experience different customs and traditions, but after saying it, he felt this wasn't an experience; this was something only a Faceless would do. And doing this, he only felt utter awkwardness.

The three maids' times were all similar this time: one hour. Fulen calculated that Ashley and Newme would both get home by ten o'clock, while Connie would get home around seven. Although such a life could earn a little more money than manual labor, it wouldn't lift them out of poverty. Fulen sighed at this thought.

However, Fulen currently had no power to change it, or rather, even becoming a deity wouldn't change it. Because deities are just humans, or species, with great power. They wouldn't pull everyone out of their difficulties. Of course, Fulen wouldn't do something impossible; he just sighed a little.

Fulen then stood up and said, "Well then, it's been a pleasure working with you, Miss Ashley." Looking at the two remaining ladies who rose to bow, Fulen did not ignore them but extended his hand and said, "I apologize for specifically asking you to come; these are your tips."

Fulen gave them a week's worth of wages according to the market rate. Watching them bow and leave, Fulen furtively observed Miss Ashley's expression out of the corner of his eye. Seeing that she showed no signs of eagerness or impatience, Fulen nodded inwardly.

Then, Fulen turned back to Miss Ashley and said, "Well then, my maid, let's sign the contract. As for the specific procedures, I'll have to ask you first, Miss Zoe." Fulen nodded to the guide sitting beside him.

After following the company's established procedures, Fulen finally acquired a cleaner who could help him with his daily tidying.

All contracts were signed, and payments were made. Fulen checked the time; it was almost half-past one. And Miss Ashley still had to go to another family for cleaning services. Although Fulen wanted to deal with all the old clothes piled up in the house right now, he could only reluctantly give up.

So, before she left, Fulen said to the hurried cleaner, "If possible, I'd like to experience the excellent performance of a cleaning maid from the Gold Hanston District Life Improvement Company tonight. Let's start today."

Miss Ashley evidently was prepared to work today, so she said with an expression of 'as expected,' "Alright, sir, will you be home around six o'clock? If you haven't returned yet, then please give me a spare key. Please rest assured about my character."

Fulen was torn between laughter and tears upon hearing this. It seemed this meticulous maid was still bothered by his somewhat impolite words to everyone earlier. He could only comfort her by saying, "I will be at ease; I trust you. Oh, by the way, I've delayed you for so long, so please accept my apology."

With that, Fulen took out an amount of money equivalent to more than two weeks of the maid's wages, then continued, "The extra money is given to you for your rush today. I hope the contract signing at noon won't delay your afternoon work. Oh, by the way, I'll give you this key for now; I estimate I'll be back a bit later."

Fulen took out the key that could Open the Door from his keyring and handed it to his maid. Then, seeing Ashley's hesitant expression, he continued, "Don't worry, I have my own way to Open the Door. Well then, I look forward to our meeting tonight, and I hope you can satisfy me."

Ashley took the key. Seeing that this gentleman had arranged almost everything, she could only reply, "Alright, I believe I won't disappoint you."

"Well then, goodbye." Fulen waved his hand and turned to leave.

After bidding farewell to Miss Ashley, Fulen waved down a carriage. It was still the familiar routine; Fulen diligently arrived at the Trier National Library.

Fulen inwardly complained, "I don't want to! Who wants to keep going to the same place, especially a place like a school? If it weren't for the fact that my Apprentice potion hasn't been digested yet, and I haven't finished acquiring the knowledge I need, I really wouldn't want to see the Trier National Library again."

However, circumstances were stronger than his will. Even if Fulen had ten thousand reasons not to, as long as he wanted to digest the potion quickly, he had to go to that place. Today, Fulen could only continue reading that familiar book, "A Concise History of Ancient and Modern Philosophy" Of course, besides that, Fulen also went to the fourth floor to learn some knowledge of Fosac Language and ancient Fosac Language.

Language is the foundation of everything. Even though Feysac Language, Rune Language, Intis Language, and Feynapotter Language all originated from the same source, the differences between them are still very significant. It's like modern Western European countries, though they have very similar origins, their differences are vast. Some languages retain some of the original style, some languages adopted new grammar after minor changes, and some languages are almost unrecognizable.

Modern languages are already a headache, let alone ancient Feysac Language, Dragon Language, Elvish, and other languages with even greater disparities.

Language was what Fulen was least proficient at, but now Fulen was not overly troubled by language issues. The Apprentice potion not only had the Beyonder ability of Open the Door but also brought a slight improvement in memory. Although it wasn't as abnormal as those Savants or Readers, among the twenty-two potions, the Apprentice could indeed enhance memory.

With excitement, Fulen slowly strolled back home around seven o'clock. Fulen had deliberately increased his speed slightly today, so he could be sure he would be home around eight o'clock. He could first check if his maid was loyal, and then see if his home had been cleaned.
