Chapter 127 - The clue.

Miria's eyes slid closed.

The temperature dropped instantly—not gradually, not gently, but all at once, like stepping through a threshold. Miria's hands grew unnaturally cold against Wish's own, the kind of cold that had nothing to do with air and everything to do with something vast moving through a very small space.

The silence stretched. Heavy. Expectant.

Then Miria's eyes snapped open.

They glowed—gold bleeding into white, light moving through her irises like a living thing—before fading back to their usual metallic gleam. She looked at Wish with a smile that was almost playful, except for the ancient, bottomless knowledge sitting quietly behind it.

"Listen carefully, child." Her voice had shifted—still hers, but layered now, carrying something underneath it the way deep water carries current. "What I say does not belong only to you. It carries the weight of other lives beside your own."

Wish held her breath.
