Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 - Go All In

Lin Wuming began searching the enemies' equipment. Apart from walkie-talkies for internal communication, he found no devices that could connect to the outside world.

"Tsk, useless people..." Lin Wuming paced anxiously.

When facing the barrage of bullets earlier, due to his intense focus, he couldn't afford to hold back, resulting in the severely miserable state of the defeated enemies.

To incapacitate them with a single blow and prevent them from getting up to hurt him, when Lin Wuming used psychic power to perform "slamming techniques" on the enemies, he targeted their heads, making them collide with hard surfaces like the ground or the flowerbed. Consequently, they were all bloody and battered, a truly horrific sight.

Coupled with the unfortunate person near the flowerbed who had been headshotted by the enemy sniper, the level of gore at the scene was directly elevated!

Having witnessed the gruesome sight of the headshot, Lin Wuming inexplicably felt that the enemies with cracked heads also looked as if they had been "headshotted."

And he had done this himself!

This strange association, combined with the incredibly bloody and stimulating scene, made Lin Wuming, now that he was out of the heightened state of combat, feel waves of nausea and revulsion.

However, wary of other enemies still lurking in the dark, Lin Wuming dared not relax, nor dared to vomit profusely there. He had to forcibly suppress the discomfort, from the physiological to the psychological, and continue to guard against enemy attacks.

Then, under the pressure and stimulation, the fear and disgust gradually evolved into anger.

The enemy's prolonged silence only intensified Lin Wuming's stress.

As mentioned before—there is no sense in being on guard constantly; better to resolve the issue once and for all.

Lin Wuming was nearly at his limit of endurance.

The nerves that had been strained since the beginning of the attack finally snapped...

As the saying goes, anger wells up from the heart, evil rises to the courage, and one decides to go all in.

"Fine, if you won't come to me, don't blame me for taking the fight to you!" Lin Wuming said fiercely.

Scanning the area, Lin Wuming picked out two enemies in relatively better condition and dragged them aside. After waking them up, he began his "interrogation."

But it was only for show.

Although Lin Wuming was angry, he hadn't completely lost his mind. He knew that the biggest threat right now was the sniper hidden in the dark. As for the other enemies, they were "melee fighters" who had to get within line of sight to attack, so they weren't truly formidable.

He also remembered that the unfortunate person who was headshotted earlier was silenced by the sniper precisely because he leaked some information—the enemy clearly cared about intelligence leaks, so much so that when the sniper moved to a favorable position, they first attacked the "traitor," not Lin Wuming.

Since this was the case, Lin Wuming planned to use the same trick again, baiting the sniper into attacking.

—Because he needed to pinpoint the sniper's exact location, then rush over at top speed and take him out!

He repeatedly used psychic blocks to pummel the enemies, even lifting these two unfortunate chosen guys and slamming them into the ground...

These specific individuals responsible for the action truly didn't know much valuable information. Under repeated torture, they had already spilled everything they knew, which wasn't fundamentally different from the information Lin Wuming had already obtained.

But unexpectedly, the anticipated bullet never arrived. No one came to rescue them, nor did anyone come to silence them. The dozen-plus enemies in front of him seemed to have been abandoned by their organization.

"It's not 'seemingly'; the enemy has likely given up on them!" Lin Wuming suddenly realized. Thinking carefully, he, alone, had single-handedly taken down more than ten fully armed soldiers carrying submachine guns—this level of combat prowess would probably only be seen in movies in his previous life.

Seeing his combat achievements so impressive in reality, even a ruthless Anbu organization would consider retreat and abandonment.

"No, I can't let you escape just like that!" Lin Wuming refused to relent.

Again, the principle holds—there's no sense in being perpetually on guard against thieves. He couldn't be sure if the enemy had permanently given up the mission and retreated, or if they were temporarily falling back to regroup and return with upgraded equipment.

With his life at stake and the grand plan of securing his future peaceful life on the line, how could Lin Wuming relax and retreat now?

—Besides, I finally came out, and all the groceries I bought are ruined...

Looking at the meat, vegetables, eggs, milk, and various seasonings scattered everywhere, covered in dirt and even blood, Lin Wuming had no intention of picking them up for reuse.

"I've paid such a heavy price..." He raised his hand and used his psychic power to summon the overturned wheelchair nearby, seating himself steadily.

"I must solve this problem once and for all!"

The wheelchair beneath him launched like a projectile, speeding away like the wind.

"I absolutely cannot let the sniper who ambushed me so many times get away!"

After speeding out of the street where the battle had taken place, various clamorous sounds suddenly filled Lin Wuming's ears, and he saw vehicles and pedestrians—this was the normal appearance of a street.

He didn't know what methods the enemy had used to make the adjacent street, just a stone's throw away, feel secluded, like another world.

The wheelchair, traveling at over a hundred kilometers per hour, suddenly burst out, causing an uproar among the vehicles and pedestrians on the road.

However, this was Academy City, and even encountering an overspeeding wheelchair, citizens could calmly accept the reality.

In addition, Lin Wuming's speed was too fast, and he vanished from their sight without giving others time to react.

In complex urban terrain, two points that are only one or two hundred meters apart in a straight line might require a large detour, easily multiplying the distance by four or five times.

Coupled with Lin Wuming's unfamiliarity with the routes, after several twists and turns, it took him over four minutes to reach the base of the building.

—Based on the trajectory analysis of the sniper's last shot, this was the office building.

Seeing the entrance and exit of the office building, Lin Wuming finally slowed down his speed.

He was already losing hope. Including the initial time spent on "interrogation," more than ten minutes had passed since the sniper fired the last shot.

In such a long time, the enemy had probably retreated and fled the scene—the sniper had been very quick to relocate.

In fact, now that he was back on a normal street, Lin Wuming's crisis was somewhat resolved. If he took out his phone now, he would find the signal was full, and he could contact Yomikawa Aiho anytime.

But Lin Wuming wasn't thinking about this now. What had sustained him all the way here, even enabling the "wheelchair speed racing" scene, was a mix of stubborn determination and raw courage.

In other words, it was a stress reaction triggered by a sudden event, high tension, and intense emotional fluctuations.
