The devil spawn looked like a bat that is far bigger than the ordinary bats that used to exist.
The Bat like devil also had few distinct features. It had almost twenty one ears that covered the whole of its head to tail. All seems to be able to produce supersonic sound and hear them too.
The wings of the bat were capable of flight. But it never dared to fly towards the sky. There are more terrifying creatures that exist above than itself and there is light. Light of the West world sun. So instead, it prefer to make small flights between branches with terrifying speed.
For offense, the devil had sharp claws and teeth that seem to be able to bite off a head. Could it drink blood of other creatures? I hasn't tried it yet and it would be hard to satiate itself if it only survived on blood.
Currently, Jane and her cohort is the target of that devil spawn.
There scout was at front of the whole cohort. He was trying to find the optimal path towards the Singing bat. It would've been better to ambush the devil. But it seem like the devil could hear the whole world and it got the jump on the scout. Killing him in an instant.
Now there are four more members, excluding her, left.
First one is the captain of the cohort. Her name is Emelia. She is a veteran who've been working for government and defending the boneyard for quite some time. She is in her thirties. And Jane respect her a lot.
Her abilities consist of enhancement of those who are around her. She can increase their strength, speed and pain tolerance. That was enough to make her a leader.
Second member is a broad sword user. His name is Rock. Jane doesn't know much about the guy. Only that he is surprisingly nice to everyone. She never bothered talking to him cause there was no need. He is also not much talk active, not the type of guy Jane like.
His abilities are simple. He is super strong. That's all, or maybe not. She doesn't know much. She even forgot to read his officer report.
Third and fourth are Joe and Nuro. They're strong and have shown abilities that are very valuable. She doesn't know much about them as they're kind of new and she doesn't like talking to new people much. They look friendly so maybe she should approach them after this mission. If they survive.
Joe is a healer of the group. He can make living creature's natural recovery faster and more effective. He also uses a sword. He is mediocre at using it.
Nuro can communicate with people that are in her view. She can also transfer information between the group so very useful. Her sense of sight is much more sharper. She uses a pistol as an offense. Pistol would be useless against devil spawn. But she has an item, a strange amulate, that increase the damage deliver through projectile.
The last guy who died. His name was Wolf. Jane wasn't closed with the guy but he also wasn't bad. She had talked with him few times and all the times her interactions with him were very pleasant.
His abilities consist of hiding from view. If he wanted to hide from someone's eyes then he sure can do it. But unfortunately his opponent didn't relay on sight.
Wolf himself kept proper distance from the Devil's area. He was informed that the creature couldn't move in sunlight but the devil ignored the damage that it took from the sunlight…like a vampire. It only need few seconds to hunt Wolf down. In conclusion, he was unlucky or a little careless.
Now the Singing devil is front of them. Wolf in its feet, half chewed and ripped opened. It was hard to not feel despair and fear. But there is no time.
Jane wants to avenge her fallen friend.
The singing creature jumps at the cohort with blinding speed. Jane also felt stronger than usual and faster too. Must be cause of Emelia's ability.
Before the Singing bat could hurt the member. Rock attacks with his broad sword, deflecting the bat's claws. That clash made a metallic sound in the air. Giving Jane few shivers.
The Singing bat screams or cries in anger.
They're under the shadows. The devil itself is avoiding the sunlight and making sure to attack from the blind spots of the cohort. It has already starting moving from one location to another. It is so swift.
Everyone takes out their respective weapon. Emelia summons a battle axe from her soul. The axe looks entirely made of bones. It must have some useful enchantments. Jane also have a cool Soul weapon or two.
She calls the weapon that is within her soul. It is gonna take time though. For now, other's have to deal with the singing bat for few seconds without her.
The devil attacks the cohort. Rock defends another attack with his broad sword. Joe also try to attack the devil but it is much more fast than his swings. All of Devil's ears moves in different directions. Catching even the tiniest of sounds that are made by the cohort.
A bullet is shot at the devil but it dodges without much effort. It now has a new target, Nuro.
It fly in the branches and climb from one to another like a monkey. It is faster and much more agile than anyone here. Emelia's buffs isn't enough to match the speed of the devil.
Rock seem to be the only one who can block straight attacks form the Singing bat. but he can't be everywhere.
It is gaining on Nuro. She shoot more bullets at its ears or eyes, but all miss the target. Soon it will be close enough to eat off her head with itself teeth.
But the devil seem to flinch mid air. It looks at its wing but it sees no damage at all. It is hurting but there is no injury at it. The devil's confusion seem to slow down the bat, but only a little.
That's all the time, Jane can provide to her cohort. Her powers are at work.
As Nuro gives signals through mind of Jane's distraction. Everyone moves with haste towards the confused devil. The devil notices or hears the moment of the humans but it is too late and Emelia attack it with her battle axe.
However, the devil pushes its claw up towards the attack. Catching it with its finger like parts. The bone axe seem to damage the flesh of the bat regardless but it ignores the pain and hit Emelia on the shoulders then throws her away.
She falls from a significate height. She is alive but it doesn't seem like she can join the battle and it would be bad if she were to knock out from the pain. So Joe needs to keep healing her for now. So two of the combatants are already off the battle for now.
The bat isn't done with its prey though. It still targets Nuro.
It rages towards the her. There is a swing that is coming from its behind but it flew high to dodge it.
It is so close to her. She sees the devil and it looks like it is smiling at her. She freezes for a second and it seem to be the time she expected to die.
But then the singing bat hears something form above. Cutting the air in half a blade falls on top of its left wing where it had felt the pain. It is Jane's weapon.
There are two weapons. One is a smaller blade, barely long enough to be consider a dagger and a sword with a little covered blade but sharp edge is on both ends.
The enchantments are simple. It increases her stamina to double and strengthen her stabbing attacks.
With that little boost to her stamina, she was able to climb a tree in time. So she can jump on top of the devil. She attacked it where she had promised.
One of its wings is damaged. Removing its ability to fly. But it isn't dead yet. It is still strong and capable of moving fast.
