Chapter 8: There's Something Evil in Your Home
That dark aura—Gre Graham had been in such a hurry to save the person that he hadn't delved into it further. But now, hearing what Lionel Lewis had said, he was almost certain that the source of the trouble lay in Lionel Lewis's residence!
"Over the past two months, my wife, my child, and even I have started to feel unwell, yet the hospitals can't find any cause for it."
Lionel Lewis spoke again, reinforcing Graham's suspicion.
"Therefore, I would like to ask Mr. Graham to take some time out of your busy schedule to visit our humble home and check on my wife and child," Lionel Lewis said with a wry smile. "I've devoted my life to climbing the social ladder, and the only thing I truly regret is not having spent more time with my family. For that reason…"
"I understand," Graham replied. "I will be at your place tomorrow."
"However," Graham added, "could you please allow me to take your pulse first?"
Lionel Lewis was taken aback by Graham's quick consent and felt even more grateful.
"Of course," he said, extending his wrist.
Graham placed two fingers on it and closed his eyes to examine the pulse carefully. The pulse was strong; how could someone in such poor health have such a strong pulse?
"Mr. Graham, what do you think?" Lionel Lewis asked as Graham opened his eyes.
"As I expected, the pulse alone doesn't reveal much," Graham replied. He tapped his fingertips, and a stream of pure white spiritual energy flowed into Lionel Lewis's body.
In the next instant, a faint trace of dark aura appeared on Lionel Lewis's face and began to move mysteriously beneath his skin.
The situation was more serious than he had anticipated. What exactly had the Liu family provoked?
"Indeed, even the most renowned doctors from both Eastern and Western medicine say the same," Lionel Lewis said, thinking that even Graham was at a loss.
But Graham replied, "I have already identified the source of the problem. Once we're at your house, I can cure it with the right medicine."
What?
"Mr. Graham, really?" Lionel Lewis was stunned; no one he had consulted had ever made such a claim!
"How sure are you?"
Graham smiled confidently, "I'm ninety percent sure."
"Excellent!" Lionel Lewis was overjoyed. "I'll send a car to pick you up tomorrow. If you can cure my wife and child, I will be eternally grateful!"
The two agreed on a time, and Lionel Lewis personally saw Graham off to his private room before leaving.
As soon as Graham pushed the door open, the two families that had been mocking him before suddenly became extremely welcoming, offering apologies and hurriedly serving him food.
Dalton even came over with a glass of wine, saying, "Son-in-law, I didn't expect you to be so capable! Let me toast to you; you'll need to protect me in the future!"
Graham politely accepted the toast, took a sip of the wine, and then glanced at Colin.
The Yuan Qinghua porcelain vase was right beside Colin, but the corner of the sandalwood box was missing, indicating that something had disturbed the peace of the gathering when Colin left.
The atmosphere at the dinner had changed dramatically, and to everyone's surprise, it was the elder sisters from both families who helped the Grahams get into the car.
In the past, they would have just left without a word.
The car drove back to their home in silence.
Even Helen, who usually complained about everything, was smiling today and offered to let Graham rest early when they got home.
Isabella's brow was furrowed; she was very uncomfortable with the idea that this "useless man" had suddenly become a guest in their home.
"What a stroke of luck," she muttered as she went to her room, determined to get Graham out as soon as possible; she couldn't allow her sister to be dominated by such a man!
When Graham entered the room, Selina was already asleep, each of them in their own bed—Graham's was a folding bed, with his legs hanging outside the bed, making for an extremely uncomfortable sleep.
But he fell asleep immediately. There had been so many events today, and there were important matters to attend to tomorrow; he couldn't afford to be careless.
His snoring began, and Selina, despite her disgust, felt even more agitated. Tomorrow, she would have to "vent her anger"… It had been a long time since she had seen that person…
The next morning, when Graham woke up, Selina had already left. He never asked where she had gone; after a year together, they each had their own needs.
"Mom and Dad are at work; there's breakfast in the kitchen. Eat by yourself," Isabella said from the sofa, where she was playing a game. She frowned and then went back to her room as soon as she saw him.
Graham glanced at the kitchen but didn't go in. Instead, he went straight out and called Lionel Lewis.
Lionel Lewis had hardly slept all night—his son, Jason Lewis, had worsened and fallen into a coma; the doctors were at a loss. He wished he could have brought Graham over in the middle of the night. Seeing the call, he drove over immediately.
Graham was slightly surprised by Lionel Lewis's personal arrival, but when he noticed the dark aura spreading from Lionel's skin to his heart and lungs, he realized the situation was more serious than he thought.
Without a word, they drove straight to the Liu residence.
Before they even entered the house, Graham heard a strange, mournful sound that wasn't like crying or the wind, yet it was unsettling.
He stared at the door for a long time without finding any trace of the source of the sound.
"Mr. Graham, shall we go in?" Lionel Lewis asked anxiously.
Graham nodded and said, "Let's go see my wife and child first."
As they entered the main room, a piercing, ghostly cry pierced their ears, shocking Graham. He had thought it was just a matter of bad feng shui, but it was clearly something much more complex.
There are many things in this world that defy common sense—his abilities, his medical knowledge, and even that dark aura all fell into that category.
And then there was another kind of thing he was very reluctant to deal with: "evil entities."
That cry was definitely not human in origin!
Lionel Lewis's face turned pale as well: "My child… what could have happened…"
He couldn't continue speaking. As a secretary, he should have been free from superstitious beliefs, but what was happening couldn't be explained by science!
The two rushed into the room and saw ten-year-old Jason Lewis shaking violently, his head twisted in a horrifying position, foam coming from his mouth, and the ghostly cry emanating from his throat!
Beside him, Jennifer Lewis was crying, trying desperately to comfort her child.
"Jason!" Lionel Lewis rushed over.
Graham grabbed him and shouted, "Don't get close!"
That shout snapped Lionel Lewis out of his trance, though he was still in a state of extreme anxiety.
"I can administer a shot to calm him down for now," Graham said, taking out a silver needle from his pocket.
As he stepped forward, Jason's cries became even more heart-wrenching. But the moment Jason saw Graham, he froze, and his shaking stopped. Fear filled his bright eyes—
Graham understood that it wasn't Jason Lewis himself who was afraid of him, but the evil spirit that had possessed him!
Someone had tampered with the Liu family and brought that evil entity into their home!
With a flash of silver light, Graham inserted the needle and sealed several acupoints, and Jason gradually fell back into a deep sleep.
"These injections will only treat the symptoms," Graham said to Lionel Lewis. "To eradicate the problem for good, we need a jade Guanyin statue."
A jade Guanyin statue?
Just as Lionel Lewis was about to order one, the sleeping Jason suddenly opened his eyes and let out a loud cry, then leaped out of bed and started running outside:
"I'm fine! I'm fine! Get rid of him!"
