Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 8– DID YOU INTEND TO HIDE

In the now desolate, devastated landscape, disfigured corpses lay strewn about in the most grotesque manner, the stench of blood and death hanging heavy in the air. A single figure stood over a corpselike body, which was strangely still alive despite the injuries. Kai stared at the leader of the masked assailant, completely devoid of any emotion, his eyes as cold as stone. The only sound was the faint groaning of the wounded man, and the crunch of gravel beneath Kai's feet.

He said coldly, "So you are the one who was able to withstand my attack and stay alive. I am impressed." His voice was monotone, devoid of any emotion. He peered down, his face becoming stern, his eyes narrowing slightly. "So you might as well tell me who sent you here."

The man chuckled, coughing up blood, the sound gurgling in his throat. "Even if my answer is yes or no, won't you still kill me?" he said mockingly, a twisted grin spreading across his face. "So do not waste your breath. Also, note that from now henceforth, you are an enemy of–"

Just as he was still speaking, Kai silenced him with a shot to his skull, the sound of the gunshot echoing through the desolate landscape. He didn't stop there, emptying the entire magazine into the almost headless corpse, the bullets tore through flesh and bone with a sickening squelch. The air was filled with the acrid smell of gunpowder and the coppery tang of blood.

No one could ever come back from that

"You could have just helped me and accepted your death quietly," Kai snorted, his voice dripping with disdain, as he walked off, the sound of his footsteps echoing through the silence. He tossed the submachine gun away, the metal clattered against the ground, as the sound faded into the distance.

A girl stood in front of a hotel receptionist, her eyes flashing with determination, her jaw set in a stubborn line. The lobby's dim lighting cast shadows on her face, and the air was thick with stale air. She was slightly tattered and frazzled, her clothes rumpled from a hasty escape. But her gaze never wavered as she argued with the receptionist, her voice growing more desperate by the minute.

The receptionist glared at her, his eyes flicking to the clock on the wall. "Girl, this is a hotel, not some social welfare or community assistance shelter," he sneered. "You pay and get a room, if not, quit wasting my time." His tone was unfriendly.

She was Rin, after narrowly escaping death, she felt tired, hungry, and scared. Being isolated, she felt worried, as Kai's whereabouts weren't known, and it was only a matter of time before she was captured again. She half hoped he would return, while also hoping he didn't at the same time, the conflicting emotions swirling in her mind like a storm. When she finally saw this hotel, it hit her that she didn't have a single dollar with her to pay for a room, but she was determined to find a way in, her eyes locked on the receptionist's face.

Then the receptionist leaned closer, his eyes filled with lust. "By I can make an exception, I believe you know what I mean." Rin was disgusted at the man's perverted gaze. "You are disgusting."

The receptionist sighed, his scowl deepening, and he pushed his chair back, the sound scraping against the floor. "I'm calling security," he muttered, reaching for the phone.

Just as the receptionist was about to make the call, a voice stopped him, "What's going on here?" Rin tilted her head to face the newcomer, her eyes narrowing slightly as she took in the sight of the man. He was a slightly lean, middle-aged man with a slightly wrinkled face, wearing a large trench coat, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled kindly at Rin, causing her to be on guard.

He was the owner of the hotel.

"Sorry sir! This girl barged in here and asked to get a room for free." Rin was instantly enraged. "I never asked to get a room for free I only hoped I could get one in exchange for doing some chores for a few days, that's all." "Still the same do you think we are out of workers." The receptionist sneered. Rin shot him a cold glare causing him to be silent as he recalled the shameless request he made ,if he were to be exposed he was be done for.

"What is your name, cutie?" The man asked. Rin answered quickly, her eyes narrowing slightly as she stared suspiciously at him. "My name is Rin."

The man chuckled and cleared his throat. "Alright, Rin, I can make an exception for you. Don't forget to wake up early for tomorrow's work - punctuality is a principle here. You get that?"

"Yes, sir!" Rin made a salute, stunning the two men. The receptionist's expression transformed, his scowl softening into a smile, and he began to treat Rin more nicely, all of a sudden. Rin rolled her eyes at his abrupt change in attitude towards her.

The hotel man's eyes sparkled with amusement as he watched her. "You shall occupy room four. If you need anything, don't forget to give a shout out to our waiters." Rin nodded, looking at the owner with gratitude in her eyes, her guard still slightly up. He nodded approvingly, and she turned to leave.

As she walked away, the man with the trench coat watched her, a small smile playing on his lips. He turned to the receptionist his eyes glinnin with excitement. "Isn't she cute."He asked

The receptionist still reeling from his boss sudden change of attitude, nodded sheepishly.

Soon after the man in the trench coat left, the receptionist whipped out his phone and answered, his voice low and smooth. "Yes, she's here. Just give me the signal when you get here." The caller hung up, and the receptionist's lips curled into an eerie smile as he placed his phone back into his pocket. He pulled out a dark G18 pistol and hid it beneath his work coat as he approached room four.

Rin collapsed on the bed, tired and happy, but her mind was still racing with worries about how weird the hotel owner had behaved, his kindness. The air conditioning hummed overhead, a gentle white noise that failed to calm her racing thoughts. Though she believed some people could be generous, but in this case, he seemed different, it was as if he had anticipated her arrival. The thought of this gave Rin a bone-chilling sense of unease.

Suddenly, Rin jolted as she heard a knock on the door, the sound echoing through the quiet room like a death knell. Rin's mind was filled with fear and uncertainty. "Who's there?" Rin called, her voice trembling slightly.

"Room service," the voice at the other end said, the words dripping with false sincerity. However, when Rin didn't open the door, the knocking became more frantic, the sound growing louder and more insistent, like a hammer pounding against her skull. Rin's suspicion was confirmed. She had been tricked.

Rin almost fainted from shock as she heard a cold voice behind her, "You managed to get yourself a nice room. I am impressed." The words sent a shiver down her spine, her skin crawling with fear. Rin shuddered, panic evident as she quickly turned to see Kai sitting leisurely on her bed, his eyes glinting with amusement.

Tears of relief streamed from her eyes as she immediately forgot the predicament she was in, summoning her courage as she maintained a calm demeanor. She asked, "How did you manage to find me?" Kai's lips curled slightly as he found her amusing, as he slowly approached her. Rin staggered back, nervously. "Did you intend to hide?" He asked nonchalantly, as he stopped walking. Rin was quiet, her head hung low.

Kai ignored her as he opened the window, the cool night air rushing in, a welcome respite from the stifling atmosphere. "This room is about 4 floors high. Any man would be flattened at the spot if he jumped." He looked at Rin, his eyes serious. "Come here." He said calmly, his voice a command.

Rin sheepishly walked towards him, but shuddered as the door shook with a loud bang, the sound echoing through the room like a gunshot. They were trying to break in. Without wasting any time, Kai grabbed Rin's waist and jumped off the window. Rin screamed in fright as they began to fall at a fast pace. She knew the guy was crazy, but she never thought it reached this extent. The wind whipping her hair back, the city lights blurred together in a mad dash of color. The ground rushed up to meet them, a deadly promise of destruction, and Rin's scream was lost in the rush of the wind.

Just before they reached the ground, Kai swung her around and lifted her up in a princess style, his grip like a vice. They crashed to the ground with a loud bang, the impact sending shockwaves through Rin's body. She gasped, her lungs emptying in a rush, as she struggled to catch her breath. Kai stood still, holding her in his arms, his eyes scanning their surroundings with a practiced intensity.

Rin was safe, but her cheeks flushed red with embarrassment. "You can put me down now." She stuttered. Kai simply replied, "Okay!" and dropped her mercilessly to the ground, causing her to fall on her butt. Rin's emotions were a mix of relief, fear, anger, and embarrassment as she looked up at Kai, her eyes wide with a mix of emotions.
