Chapter 23 - Cloud nine

"Why can't I move any part of my body?" Rowan wondered in disbelief, not understanding why he didn't have the will to push Lucian away.

He just stood there, frozen, his mind blank and his body trembling, not from fear or cold, but from something else entirely.

Something he had never allowed himself to feel before... Pleasure!

Then something more unbelievable happened; without thinking of the consequences of his actions, without calculating the risks or maintaining the carefully constructed walls he had spent years building, Rowan relaxed into the kiss.

Lucian's arms wrapped around his waist, pulling him closer, anchoring him, grounding him in a way nothing else ever had.

And Rowan... The cold, untouchable, perfect Rowan Donovan, began to return the kiss. It started uncertain, as if he wasn't quite sure what he was doing, as if his lips were moving on their own free will.

But after a second, something shifted.
