Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: The Last Gift

When Akari and Inuyasha returned and came out of the well, they saw Miroku, Sango, Shippo, and Kirara in front of them. Sango and Miroku looked at them and smiled, but when Miroku felt Akari's power, he hesitated to move forward. Sango, who had stopped beside him, noticed something wrong and asked.

"Akari, what happened to you?" Akari said.

"The Shikon Jewel is destroyed. Because of that, the seal on my power was completely released." That was the reason she told them.

Akari put her hand on the ground, and she spread all her power throughout the surrounding area to purify the remaining poison from Naraku, causing the dead vegetation to grow again. At that moment, she took the opportunity to send the rest of Kagome's soul to Kikyou. Akari looked at Inuyasha and the others and said.

"Having great power is amazing. However, this will also bring disaster if it is not handled properly, so I am going to seal it. After all, I don't need it anymore." Akari expelled her power and closed her eyes.

A great power gathered around her, pushing back Inuyasha and the others. Akari gathered all her power and began to place a seal on her soul, layer by layer. When they were all distracted, Akari silently used a part of her spiritual power, sending north. It fortified a barrier that was already there. Akari smiled. The barrier would last for at least a hundred years. It was her last gift to little black.

Above her diamond tattoo, a red flower with six petals slowly formed, covering it. Then the seal was completed. Akari sighed and opened her eyes.

Miroku couldn't feel the overwhelming power anymore and asked.

"Akari, do you seal your power completely?" Akari shook her head.

"No,I only left just five percent of it just in case." Actually, she left ten percent, only covered by a layer. In case of emergency.

"But wasn't it dangerous for you?" Sango asked.

"No, it doesn't matter. I can't stay for long anyway." Akari said carefreely.

When Inuyasha heard that, he suddenly asked.

"What do you mean by that? Are you leaving? Aren't you coming back?" Akari looked at him and said.

"It means exactly what I said. I only came to this world because of the Shikon Jewel. Now that it doesn't exist, I have no reason to stay." Inuyasha and the others were shocked.

"Don't feel bad. It's something expected, after all. I don't belong here." Akari smiled and hugged Sango and Miroku, saying.

"I truly enjoyed the time we spent together, and I will always consider you friends." They felt moved by her words and hugged her back.

Akari moved backward and took out two objects, saying.

"This is my farewell gift, Miroku, I give you a parchment made with my blood and my full spiritual power, which will protect you from attacks and curses so powerful as Naraku's once." Then she looked at Sango and said.

"This dagger had my spiritual power. If you use it, it will destroy whatever stands in front of you. Use it wisely." She gave Kirara and Shippo part of her spiritual power to protect them.

Finally, Akari sighed and looked at Inuyasha.

"Inuyasha, I really appreciate the time we spent together. Thank you very much for everything." He seemed to say something, but Akari interrupted him when she suddenly knelt down and apologized to him.

"I'm really sorry, Inuyasha." He looked stunned and said.

"What? What are you doing? Why are you apologizing?" Akari stood up and said.

"Because I need to do it." Those were her most sincere words. She had wanted to do it since she hid Kikyou from Inuyasha. Regardless of how she justified her actions, it was a fact that she concealed the truth from someone she considered a friend and who had saved her life countless times. By making him suffer with the death of his most beloved person—it is true that at that moment it was the best option, but that does not mean that guilt did not torment Akari. This apology was something she had to do.

"Inuyasha, I hid something from you. I saw you suffer because of it. It's true that I had many reasons not to tell you, but that doesn't erase my sin. It doesn't matter if you can't forgive me. I just wanted to say I'm very sorry." Inuyasha didn't understand her and said irritably.

"What are you talking about?" At that moment, her Butterfly Shikigami arrived, and Akari pointed at the trees, saying.

"It's best if you see for yourself. She is already here." Inuyasha turned around in the direction she pointed, and he was completely astonished.

Inuyasha couldn't believe what he was seeing. It was so unreal until he heard.

"Inuyasha..." Sango and Miroku were stunned too. They didn't even know what to say.

It seemed like an illusion for all of them. It wasn't until the person ran to embrace Inuyasha that they woke up and realized it was real.

"Kikyou..." Inuyasha murmured, holding the person in his arms.

"Inuyasha, it's not an illusion. I'm really here." Inuyasha still couldn't react, but he unconsciously returned the hug.

Only when he felt the slight warmth of the person in his arms did he repeat.

"Kikyou..." She answered.

"Yeah, I'm here." Inuyasha said, feeling immense joy.

"Kikyou..." She said.

"Yeah, I'm here." He continued repeating her name as if he had forgotten the rest of the words.

Only after a while, he calmed down a little and asked.

"How? I mean, I saw you..." Kikyou knew what he wanted to say and answered.

"I thought I was dead, too. But it was thanks to Akari that I'm here. She hid my soul and treated it. She built a better and stronger body for me. I really don't know how she did it." Kikyou looked at Akari.

Akari cleared her throat and said. "I can't tell you everything, but what I can say is that I saved you because I wanted to. I owe you something. Your presence here allowed me to grow and made me strong enough to destroy the Shikon Jewel without you; I could have died a long time ago."

Akari looked at Inuyasha and said.

"My debt can be considered paid now. Kikyou's body will not need souls to remain in this world because I gave her back the soul that originally belonged to her. Her soul will not be attacked either, as the world will allow her to remain here. However, Kikyou can't keep her spiritual power. It was the price to remain here. She is now a normal woman. Take good care of her, Inuyasha." Kikyou looked at her and smiled.

"I don't care. It was always my wish." Akari nodded and walked to the well, saying.

"Now, time is up. I hope to never see you again, because if we meet again, it will be because you are in danger." Then, before someone could stop her, she jumped into the well.

Inuyasha saw her and ran toward her, saying.

"Wait!" Akari only smiled and said.

"Goodbye, my friends. I wish you happiness." You too, little black. Then she disappeared, and with her, the well.

**

Akari came out of the well and saw her mother and brother in front of her, waiting for her.

"Mother, I told you I would come back." Her mother smiled and shook her head.

"It's okay now. You should be hungry. Let's go eat." Akari nodded and took the hand of her brother.

They went up the stairs, and before leaving Akari turned around and saw that the well had disappeared.

"Sister, what happened?" Akari smiled and said.

"It was nothing. Let's go home."

The door was closed. Thus marking the end of an adventure.
