Chapter 24 - The Thirteenth Sovereign

The pillar of black-and-white light pierced the heavens.

It rose from beneath the Imperial Palace, tearing through layers of ancient formations that had remained hidden since before the Empire's founding.

The entire capital shook.

Walls collapsed.

Thousands of cultivators fell to their knees as an overwhelming pressure spread in every direction.

It was unlike the aura of the Civilization King.

Unlike the Law.

Unlike Kael's Avatars.

It was... contradictory.

Creation and destruction.

Life and death.

Hope and despair.

Everything existed together within that single presence.

The battlefield inside the Sovereign Domain fell silent.

Even the descending silver spears stopped.

The High Arbiter Alpha slowly turned toward the Imperial Capital.

> Unregistered Sovereign Signature detected.

> Identity verification...

For the first time, the Law failed to complete its calculation.

> Verification... impossible.

The white figure beside Kael narrowed its eyes.

"It really survived..."

Kael looked at him.

"You know who it is."

The white figure nodded.

"I know what it became."

Before he could continue, the pillar of light exploded.

A shockwave rippled across Blue Star, crossing mountains, oceans, and kingdoms in an instant.

Every independent Avatar felt it.

Every Otherworld commander felt it.

Even the crimson-eyed Civilization King slowly rose from his throne.

"So..."

His deep voice echoed through the Gate.

"You escaped your prison."

A laugh answered him.

It wasn't loud.

It wasn't terrifying.

It was calm.

Far too calm.

"I never escaped."

"I simply waited for all of you to gather."

A figure slowly rose from the collapsing Imperial Palace.

He looked no older than thirty.

Long white hair flowed down his back.

His left eye was as black as the void.

His right eye shone like a miniature sun.

He wore simple black robes without a single ornament.

There was no weapon at his waist.

No armor.

No crown.

Yet as he stepped into the air, the world instinctively bent around him.

The Emperor floated several meters behind him and bowed deeply.

"Master."

The man didn't answer.

His gaze wandered across the world before finally stopping on Kael.

"...So."

"So you're the child."

Kael felt every instinct scream at him.

This man...

Was dangerous.

Not because of his power.

Because of his silence.

The man smiled faintly.

"My name is..."

He paused, as if trying to remember something forgotten long ago.

"...No."

"Names no longer matter."

"The world once called me..."

"The Thirteenth Sovereign."

The title alone caused reality to tremble.

Rion swallowed hard.

"Why does it sound like everyone knows him..."

"...except history?"

The Moon Goddess answered quietly.

"Because history was rewritten."

Kael looked at her.

"What do you mean?"

Her silver eyes never left the Thirteenth Sovereign.

"He never existed."

Kael frowned.

"He's standing right there."

"He exists now."

She closed her eyes briefly.

"But the Law erased him from every record."

The High Arbiter Alpha stepped forward.

Its six silver wings unfolded.

> Designation confirmed.

> Anomaly Number Zero.

The Thirteenth Sovereign laughed softly.

"So..."

"You still call me an anomaly."

Alpha raised one hand.

> Existence beyond calculation cannot be permitted.

The Thirteenth Sovereign sighed.

"You've been repeating that sentence for millions of years."

He took a single step.

Only one.

The distance between him and Alpha disappeared.

No movement.

No flash.

He was simply there.

Alpha reacted instantly.

Thousands of defensive equations surrounded its body.

The Thirteenth Sovereign reached out with one finger.

Tap.

The equations shattered.

Tap.

Alpha's silver crown cracked.

Tap.

The High Arbiter was sent crashing through the Battle Domain, skipping across reality itself before disappearing beyond the horizon.

Silence.

Flamingo stared blankly.

"...He..."

"...he flicked the strongest Arbiter away."

Harvester's shadows trembled.

> He didn't use power.

> He used understanding.

The Thirteenth Sovereign nodded.

"Correct."

He looked directly at Harvester.

"Power is inefficient."

"Understanding is absolute."

The white figure stepped forward.

"You shouldn't have awakened."

The Thirteenth Sovereign smiled.

"And let the world repeat its mistakes?"

"No."

His expression slowly became serious.

"I've slept long enough."

Far beyond the Gate, the Civilization King finally stepped onto the obsidian bridge.

Every Otherworld commander knelt.

"My old friend."

The Thirteenth Sovereign looked toward him.

"I wondered how long it would take."

The Civilization King smiled.

"Still chasing impossible dreams?"

The Thirteenth Sovereign chuckled.

"And you're still trying to rule everything."

The atmosphere became strangely peaceful.

As if two old friends had reunited after countless years.

Kael frowned.

"You know each other?"

The Thirteenth Sovereign answered without taking his eyes off the Gate.

"We were once allies."

Rion's face turned pale.

"...What?"

The Moon Goddess closed her eyes.

"I feared that answer."

The Thirteenth Sovereign continued.

"Long before Blue Star..."

"Long before the Empire..."

"Long before the Law became what it is today..."

"There were only thirteen Sovereigns."

He slowly raised his hand.

"And we believed..."

"...we could create a perfect universe."

Silence.

The Civilization King's smile slowly faded.

"It was your idea."

"It was."

"And you betrayed us."

"I did."

The Thirteenth Sovereign lowered his hand.

"Because I finally understood."

His gaze shifted toward Kael.

"There is no such thing..."

"...as a perfect future."

The words echoed across the battlefield.

The white figure smiled.

"The Human Origin has already taught him that."

The Thirteenth Sovereign nodded.

"Good."

He looked at Kael for several seconds.

Then he asked,

"Tell me, Kael Viren."

"If saving the world required sacrificing everyone you love..."

"...would you do it?"

The battlefield became deathly silent.

Every eye turned toward Kael.

The Law waited.

The Civilization King waited.

The Emperor waited.

Even Kael's Avatars looked toward him.

Kael answered without hesitation.

"No."

The Thirteenth Sovereign's lips curved into a genuine smile.

"I was hoping you'd say that."

The Emperor's smile vanished.

The Civilization King's eyes narrowed.

And for the very first time...

The Law recalculated the future...

Only to find that every possible outcome had become uncertain.
