Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Futaba Town in 1992

Futaba Town, Kasukabe City.

Kobayashi Itsuki squatted weakly in the corridor, supporting himself against the wall with both hands, his head throbbing with pain, not to mention having to suppress the constant nausea and urge to vomit from his chest.

He didn't even have the strength to complain.

As a struggling Amateur Writer, he had toiled for several years.

But after just one night's sleep, where had he ended up when he woke up?!

The surrounding babbling, both unfamiliar and familiar, was this still his home country?

At this moment, Kobayashi Itsuki didn't know what had happened; his body was so uncomfortable that he didn't even have the strength to curse, "I have an 8 AM class."

He could only watch as many neighbors, dressed in slightly outdated clothes, gathered in the corridor to watch the commotion.

There was also a young woman in a police uniform, seemingly questioning an agitated Old Man.

He remained in this state for an unknown period of time.

A strange memory slowly began to emerge in Kobayashi Itsuki's mind.

This memory came so abruptly that it made Kobayashi Itsuki's already aching head throb even more, and his entire head felt swollen.

Kobayashi Itsuki had no resistance to this feeling, and cold sweat immediately spread, drenching the clothes on his back.

Fortunately, after enduring the initial shock, the uncomfortable feeling quickly began to subside, giving Kobayashi Itsuki a little energy to examine these memories.

It was only when he looked that he almost fainted.

Japan, 1992, the bubble economy, selling houses to speculate in stocks, debt, charcoal suicide... a series of images completely shattered Kobayashi Itsuki's fantasy of becoming a successful author in his mind.

According to the memories that emerged in his mind, he was currently in Japan in 1992, under the influence of the bubble economy.Due to the economic crisis, once-expensive land and real estate prices plummeted.

As for the original owner, he had the same surname and given name as him: Kobayashi Itsuki.

He was a recently graduated university student whose parents had passed away, leaving him a house and some savings.

With these basic assets to ensure his livelihood, he could live a very relaxed and comfortable life with just a part-time job.

But under these circumstances, before the economic crisis arrived, he was incited by others to sell his house, borrowed a lot of loans, and resolutely invested everything into the stock market.

However, the arrival of the economic crisis left him unable to even get in line to jump off a building; he could only commit suicide by burning charcoal at home.

He left behind a mess of nothingness and crippling debt.

'What kind of scumbag, he died and dragged me over here, ...'

After accepting all these memories, even Kobayashi Itsuki, with his good temper, couldn't help but curse in his heart.

If his body wasn't so uncomfortable, he would have wanted to just kick the bucket and restart cleanly.

What kind of situation was this?

In his previous life, he had worked hard writing, diligently pleasing his readers, and finally had a small amount of savings and a developing career.

Then he was forced to transmigrate.

If it was just transmigration, he, as a web novel author, had a relatively high acceptance for it.

But now, he had no system, and he was given such a terrible background and identity. How was he supposed to play?

Others who transmigrated might not live in luxury, but they wouldn't start off with debt, would they?

Moreover, according to the memories in his mind, this world didn't seem to be some anime, novel, or movie world he was familiar with; it was just an ordinary modern world.

And the time was 1992, and he was in a foreign country.

Almost everything he remembered and could utilize had been erased.

He estimated that his ultimate fate would probably be having his kidneys harvested because he couldn't repay his debts, or being put in an oil drum and sunk into Tokyo Bay.

Just as Kobayashi Itsuki was filled with grief and indignation, and also extremely weak, a concerned voice reached his ears.

"Sir, how are you feeling now? Do you need me to call an ambulance for you?"

The voice was clear, and although it was Japanese, Kobayashi Itsuki had no problem understanding it.

This was perhaps the only benefit of transmigration.

Kobayashi Itsuki raised his head with some difficulty, and what he saw was a beautiful face with a hint of heroism between her brows.

Perhaps due to different national customs, this Policewoman had bright orange wavy hair that looked particularly striking.

Her police skirt added a touch of charm, and her surname, Higashimatsu, was on a name tag at her chest.

But at the moment, Kobayashi Itsuki didn't have much mind to care about any of this.

After breathing fresh air outside for a long time, the dizziness and nausea caused by carbon monoxide poisoning had significantly alleviated.

He estimated that in a little while, he would be fine.

As for going to the hospital, that was completely out of Kobayashi Itsuki's consideration.

Penniless and deeply in debt, what was he going to the hospital for?

Although at first, after receiving the memories, Kobayashi Itsuki wished he could just restart.

But after a while, as he gradually recovered, he still decided to take a good look at this world.

It's better to live poorly than to die; the words of his ancestors still held some truth.

To ask him to jump from a building right now, to be honest, it wasn't that bad yet.

"No, no need."

Kobayashi Itsuki shook his head, saying with some difficulty.

"But you now..."

The Policewoman still seemed a little worried about Kobayashi Itsuki's physical condition.

"Thank you for your concern, Officer Higashimatsu, but it's really not necessary."

Seeing Kobayashi Itsuki's insistence, the beautiful Policewoman said nothing more.

After the surrounding neighbors dispersed, she came to Kobayashi Itsuki's side and helped him walk into the house.

"You still owe me rent, and I'll be watching you. Don't think you can die so easily!"

The agitated Old Man who had been talking to the Policewoman shouted from behind.

According to the memories in Kobayashi Itsuki's mind, this should be his Landlord.

"If you keep making noise, I'll hang myself outside your door tonight."

Kobayashi Itsuki stopped, turned around weakly, and glared at the Old Man.

Although he was feeling unwell, could he really let a Little Baka push him around?

He wouldn't tolerate it.

The agitated Old Man immediately fell silent.

The economy was sluggish, and houses were hard to rent. If someone died, it would be even harder to rent out, especially since this entire floor belonged to him.

Back in the room, the iron basin left from the charcoal burning was still there.

The Policewoman helped Kobayashi Itsuki sit down and then poured him a glass of water.

"You've really gone to a lot of trouble, Officer Higashimatsu."

"Mr. Itsuki, please don't say that; these are all things I should do."
