Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Invitation

"Wild Spiritualist! *You're* the wild Spiritualist!"

Dark lines appeared on Shu Feng's forehead, and he rolled his eyes at Ding Xiaoxue.

The beautiful, professional-looking woman with the refined, light makeup and extraordinary air smiled faintly. "Shu Feng, is it? Xiaoxue loves to joke around. Please wait a moment while I make your ID card!"

After taking a blood sample, a photo, and his fingerprints, Su Yi handed a white card to Shu Feng.

"There. You're now a registered Spiritualist. From now on, you can use this white card to enter Beiling Street freely. It also has a credit limit of one million."

"But I wouldn't recommend using that credit limit. If you can't pay it back, you'll be sent to the Erosion Realm to work off your debt," said Ding Xiaoxue.

A chill went down Shu Feng's spine. "I understand."

Ding Xiaoxue said, "Shu Feng, do you want to join the Guardian Flame? It's the official organization of the Qianyuan Republic. Once you're in, it's basically like being a government employee. The benefits and compensation are top-notch."

Shu Feng's eyes lit up. "Tell me about the benefits and compensation!"

Shu Feng came from a poor family, so after awakening his Ability, his first thought was how to use it to make money. He was extremely interested in the Guardian Flame.

"The moment you join the Guardian Flame, you'll immediately receive a Cultivation Technique, the Spirit Cultivation Technique. A Level 1 Spirit Warrior Apprentice gets a monthly salary of ten thousand, a Second-level Spirit Warrior Apprentice gets twenty thousand, and so on. A Spirit Warrior's monthly salary is two hundred thousand. Basically, as long as you join the Guardian Flame, your monthly salary will be at least ten thousand."

"After you join the Guardian Flame, the organization will train you. You can get direct admission into Shuijing High School."

"The Guardian Flame also possesses a complete set of advanced Secret Techniques for the four major paths of cultivation."

"Those are your rights; now for your obligations. From middle school through university, you're considered a student, so you won't be conscripted for mandatory missions."

"However, after you graduate from university, you'll formally begin your service with the Guardian Flame and will be assigned mandatory missions. Of course, you could also choose to transfer to a civilian staff position. Either way, you'll be working for the country," said Ding Xiaoxue.

Without the slightest hesitation, Shu Feng said decisively, "I'll join!"

There was absolutely no information about Spiritual Power on the internet outside of Beiling Street. Furthermore, Shu Feng was flat broke, with no funds or opportunities to develop on his own. If he didn't latch onto a powerful backer like the Guardian Flame, he'd have no way of ever reaching the higher echelons of the Spiritualist world.

'Okay, fine! He would never admit he was practically drooling over a monthly salary of ten thousand.'

Shuijing High School was on a level even above the nation's top magnet schools; it was one of only three such elite high schools in the entire country.

Shuijing High School boasted the best faculty and the most advanced facilities in the nation, and it exclusively recruited geniuses from every field.

Comparing Lei Jiang First High School to Shuijing High School was like comparing a common chicken to a Phoenix—they weren't even in the same league.

Shuijing High School recruited nationally. Even if a business tycoon worth tens of billions had a son as dumb as a rock, it would be nearly impossible for them to get into Shuijing High School.

Shu Feng himself was of average talent; he didn't even qualify to take the entrance exam for Shuijing High School.

Ding Xiaoxue said, "That's enough for today. Let's come back together tomorrow. I'll take you to join the Guardian Flame."

"Thank you, Ding Xiaoxue."

Shu Feng thanked her with genuine sincerity. If it hadn't been for Ding Xiaoxue's help, he never would have been able to enter the world of Spiritualists.

Ding Xiaoxue smiled. "To be honest, I have my own selfish reason for helping you. For every 'wild' Spiritualist I help get registered, I earn ten Contribution Points."

"Contribution Points represent your contributions to the Guardian Flame. After you join, the organization will provide you with basic training and guidance. From then on, if you want to purchase powerful Secret Treasures or more advanced Cultivation Methods, you'll need Contribution Points and money."

Shu Feng rolled his eyes at Ding Xiaoxue and started walking out.

After getting home and eating dinner, Shu Feng went to his room and rolled around on his bed, his heart filled with excitement. 'Starting tomorrow, I'll be making over ten thousand a month!'

Lei Jiang City was a small, third- or fourth-tier inland city in the Qianyuan Republic. In a place like this, a monthly salary of over ten thousand was on par with that of a manager at a small-to-medium-sized company, placing him among the lower rungs of the elite. A salary of over ten thousand a month would drastically improve his family's financial situation, which made him incredibly excited.

'Still, a dishwasher in the Erosion Realm makes twenty thousand a month. My income is only half of that. That must mean the Erosion Realm is incredibly dangerous. I absolutely cannot go there until I become a Spirit Warrior.'

Shu Feng was filled with curiosity about the Erosion Realm. After all, a single world coordinate from there could sell for ten billion. If he got lucky and found one, he'd get ten billion. He could lie on a bed of money and count cash until his hands cramped up.

「The next afternoon after school.」

"Shu Feng, let's go home together!"

As all the students of Class 53 in their third year at Lei Jiang Third Middle School watched, Ding Xiaoxue strode confidently into the room and left with Shu Feng.

Linga sighed. "Damn, that guy Shu Feng is really something else. He even managed to snag the school's untouchable beauty, Ding Xiaoxue. Amazing! Why doesn't she look at me? I'm obviously way more handsome than him."

Wang Lu watched them leave, a look of disbelief on her face. "Don't tell me Ding Xiaoxue has actually fallen for that guy Shu Feng?"

Zhong Jietong felt a pang of annoyance. "Don't spread nonsense! How could someone like Ding Xiaoxue fall for Shu Feng? It's not right to start rumors like that!"

Wang Lu sounded a little hurt. "I was just making an offhand comment."

Beiling Street.

Ding Xiaoxue said eagerly, "Before you join the Guardian Flame, let's go test your Spiritual Power level and see what your aptitude is."

Shu Feng asked curiously, "Aptitude?"

"Aptitude is the most important factor in cultivating Spiritual Power."

"Spiritual Power Cultivation Talent is divided into six tiers: Mortal, Ordinary, Excellent, Elite, Genius, and Monster."

"Mortal refers to ordinary people who can't awaken a Spiritual Ability. Over 99.99% of the world's population falls into this category."

"Ordinary refers to Spiritualists who have a Spiritual Power Value between 1 and 3 upon awakening."

"Excellent refers to Spiritualists with a Spiritual Power Value between 4 and 9 upon awakening."

"Elite refers to Spiritualists with a Spiritual Power Value between 10 and 19 upon awakening."

"Genius refers to Spiritualists with a Spiritual Power Value between 50 and 99 upon awakening."

"And Monster refers to Spiritualists with a Spiritual Power Value of 100 or more upon awakening."

"If an ordinary person can't awaken naturally, they must consume a Top-Level Magic Potion just for a chance to awaken as a Spiritualist. Only then can they begin to cultivate Spiritual Energy."

"A single bottle of Magic Potion that allows an ordinary person to awaken as a Spiritualist is worth at least thirty billion, and even then, money can't buy it. Whenever one appears, it's immediately snatched up by the top global consortiums to be used to cultivate their direct heirs."
