Chapter 468
Harold's POV
My boot locked on the final stair tread, my hand freezing over the metallic ring of my car keys the second that voice cracked through the silence behind me, raw and suffocating.
"Harold..."
I turned around slowly. Miley stood a few paces back near the entrance of the hallway, her skin as pale as marble, her eyes swollen and bloodshot with fresh tears. But it was the dead, hollow stillness wrapping around her features that sent a sudden spike of dread straight down my spine. She took slow, calculated steps toward me, each heavy footfall sinking into the living room rug like a dull thud echoing inside my head.
She stopped directly in front of me, locking her empty, lifeless eyes onto mine, her shoulder twitching once before her voice dropped into a razor-sharp whisper that sliced through the room.
"If you go tell them..." She swallowed hard, her chest barely expanding as she held my gaze. "...I will kill myself."
