Chapter 4 - 4. Protector Steve part1

The team of three came charging at us, bloodlust glinting on their eyes sprinting at us like a bullet on steroids with no regard for human life.

"Surrender," they shouted at the top of their lungs.

Their cocky demeanor made it almost laughable as though they were confident, they were currently running into a highly explosive minefield.

With hearts beating through our chests, we looked, desperately hoping for the landmines to trigger.

I beginning to grow anxious, watched as they came closer and closer, I heard just what I had previously been hoping for.

The sound of the explosives detonating was spectacular. The banging sound could be heard from a mile away.

[System message: well done.]

[Gained immunity for the next 10 days]

[Earned 500 coins]

I looked over at Jake who was claiming the same rewards and screamed.

"Let's go! Jake, we can now gear up even more than we are now."

(10 days later)

Jake crafted each of us platinum quilts from that one village we raided and a pump action shotgun for himself which gave bot of us good close range abilities.

Our only weakness would be long ranged combat, which we were still yet to experience. We were in the middle of setting up camp when we were greeted by another system message.

[System message: throughout this night you will be attacked by wild monsters which are quite tanks. If you die, you will be eliminated. Good luck.]

After reading this a herd of elephants came up to attack. I responded by jumping out of the way and started shooting at them.

After a while my ammunition depleted and i was then powerless. Realising this is grabbed a stone from the pile next to us and threw it.

I heard a thud and a loud crash. Jake had just been hit on the head with the stone I just threw.

"Oh shittt! What have I done?"

Even after Jake fell, i continued to throw stones until the elephants where only 3 remaining. I then ran over, took the shotgun from Jake's hands angmd shot each and everyone of the remaining elephants with extreme precision making sure thy fell away from Jake and I.

I then did chest compressions on him till he woke up.

"What happened?" He asked me.

"I kindaa knocked you out," I reluctantly said.

He frowned at me but there was no time to talk as the next wave of monsters were on their way. Wolves and other species came speeding towards us when I borrowed Jake's pistol and started shooting before they could arrive. Jake also began unloading the mag on them till they were only few left.

I let him finish them of when the sun began rising.

[System message: population now at 98500.]

[Well done to all the survivers]

500 people didn't make it from that horde of monsters. This just went to show how determined our competition was in this.

We began to celebrate our luck when we saw a random cave that looked surprisingly enticing, almost like it was we were being lurred into the cave.

"No, we are not going into that, no."

"Yes Jake, we are."

The cave was big and spacious but was very long with seemingly no end, we endeavoured in this cave for hours looking at any nooks and crannys hoping for anything interesting until we found another unusual box like item.

On it there was a big green button wrapped in tape written 'do not press', but like the idiots we were we pressed it anyway.

The box turned out to be a spawner for mutant spiders, we know this because when we pressed the button an unfathomable amount of spiders started crawling in our direction. It was terrifying especially for me because of my arachnophobia.

I felt like the ground could slowly swallow me up in a minute. At this point I believed that I would much rather have that happen.

My heart couldn't stop racing, it felt kind of exhausting unlike past experiences when my heart was pounding because my fear for spiders was severe,or so my doctor told me when I was 10.

Jake was on his own, the spiders couldn't make me concentrate. I broke down into the kid who once cried because of a spider in my room.

But Jake couldn't take these all on his own. The venom of only one spider could kill people twice Jakes size. In other words Jake was no match for those spiders.

Luckily for me that fear turned to rage in an instant. The fire in my eyes was evident, even for Jake.

When you were once known for being a mass murderers, you occasionally have to at least train for situations where shooting dosent work.

As if it was muscle memory, I spun around and grabbed jake by his arm. I extended my wrist and pulled the spawner closer to me. When it was close enough, I threw the box away.

I then dropped Jake, grabbed a nearby boulder and smashed those spiders to smithereens.

I then dropped to the floor in exhaustion as my energy had been used up in the most eventful 60 seconds of my life.

Jake then asked me where i had learned to move like that.

"Bro,what the fuck. Where did you learn to do all of that?"

I just wondered on how i should tell him that in my past life I was Notoriously good at evading police officers. It was like second nature.

"Jake, I used to be a very good murderer."

Jake then asked "What do you mean by that"

I refused to continue explaining hoping that I wouldn't need to reference my past life like that anymore as it felt like shackles that were continuously strapped to my feet.

We walked in silence from then on, an attempt to maintain normalcy just for now.

Night was about to fall, and we made separate makeshift beds hoping to sleep the night away when we heard voices. It sounded like an enemy team waere planning to catch us by without out knowledge, restrain us and possibly kill us.

With the team coming closer all we could do is hope that they would forget about our presence.

And as if the goddess had forsaken us one last time, we were spotted.

"Oh goddammit! Here they come."
