Ding...Response received.Initializing trial...Trial started.
My consciousness leaves my body. I find myself in a place where no one else exists—no sky, no ground, only darkness. I can't feel any land beneath me; I'm not stepping on anything. It's as if I'm floating in space. I try to walk around to find something. As I start walking, I think I'm moving, but there's no ground to speak of. The first few hours pass, and I can't see anything, yet I keep going. There's nothing here, so I can't tell time, so I begin counting—1... 2... 3... 4...
...2,983,445. That's when I realize it. I start to feel a little scared, since I still can't see anything. I can feel my body, but I can't touch it. Soon, a wave of fear washes over me, and I start running. I keep running for seven days—seven days, apparently, since I can't feel anything, and there's no sign of fatigue. I don't get hungry. At one point, I try to stop breathing to kill myself, but nothing happens. That's when the fear really sets in. I don't know why, but I feel truly scared. I start cursing myself for ever starting this trial.
Soon, when it feels like everything is over—like I've cursed myself completely and there's nothing left—a flash of my past life appears before me: the person I was in my previous life. This is exactly what I deserve, I think. But then I tell myself: no, this isn't what I said when I reincarnated here. What I said was, "This time, I'm going to do what I want, no matter if it's right or wrong." With that, I stand up from where I'd been sitting. There's no ground, so I can move in any direction—up, down, left, right—but I keep moving forward as I resume counting: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9...
After I don't know how many vigintillion counts...
My eyes slowly open, tired beyond measure, as a blurry light comes into view. I hear a voice in my head.
Ding.Trial completed.Skill unlock.[The current body does not match the skill's requirements. Modification needed.]Begin modification? [Y/N]
Seeing this, I feel a surge of annoyance. I don't even know how much time I spent in that place, wandering—it felt like an eternity—and now this. But then I tell myself, Doesn't that mean I went through that hell for nothing otherwise? I sigh.
"Yes," I command.
Ding.Modification started. To ensure no disturbances during the process, your surroundings will shift into a void until the modification is complete.
As I see this, a surge of pain overtakes my entire body—like someone is peeling my skin off while keeping me alive. I scream so loud I think my organs might come out through my mouth, but no one hears me. I can't move at all. The pain only intensifies, as if someone is crushing my bones. My whole body feels like it's rejecting something. I want to pass out, but I can't. The pain is so intense that I start crying, and my body loses control entirely as I keep screaming, hoping to just die already.
Ding. During modification, the host cannot lose consciousness.
"Fuck you," I scream.
The next thing I know, I open my eyes in pain, my vision blurry. As it slowly clears, I see a mirror in front of my bed and catch my reflection. I mutter, "I've changed."
Ding.Modification completed.Skill unlocked: Divineness.
"Divineness," I say slowly. I try asking the system more questions, but it doesn't respond at all.
My body has changed. I used to have black hair like the other NPCs, but now it's turned white, and my eyes have become a sparkling blue. My face hasn't completely changed, but the improvement is noticeable—anyone paying even a little attention would be able to tell it's me.
Well, tomorrow I have to go to school, or the facility will come looking for me, I think.
