Chapter 130 - CHAPTER 130

The night felt heavier after the meeting at the archive warehouse.

Ethan's car moved slowly along the nearly empty road. Streetlights reflected off the windshield like streaks of fast-moving light.

Sophia sat in the passenger seat, still holding the old folder containing her mother's documents.

She hadn't said a word since they left the warehouse.

Daniel sat in the back seat, staring out the window while thinking hard.

Leonard Graves.

The name now felt far more real.

No longer just a shadow behind a mysterious organization.

No longer just a name in old documents.

The man actually existed.

And what was more disturbing—

he didn't look the least bit afraid.

Ethan broke the silence.

"He's baiting us."

Daniel nodded slowly.

"Yes."

Sophia stared out the window.

"What does that mean?"

Ethan gripped the steering wheel tighter.

"Leonard knows we're looking for the truth."

Sophia turned to him.

"Then why did he show himself in front of us?"

Ethan didn't answer right away.

But Daniel spoke softly from the back.

"Because he wants us to see him."

Sophia frowned.

"That doesn't make sense."

Daniel looked at the folder in Sophia's hand.

"It makes perfect sense if we think like him."

Sophia fell silent.

Ethan finally spoke,

"People like Leonard never move without a purpose."

A red light forced the car to stop.

Ethan stared at the light for a few seconds before continuing.

"He wants us to dig deeper."

Sophia looked at him sharply.

"Why?"

Ethan shook his head slowly.

"Because maybe…"

He drew a breath.

"…we're heading toward something he wants."

Silence fell again.

Outside the car, the city looked normal as ever.

But for them, everything felt different now.

When they arrived home, it was past midnight.

Sophia went straight to the living room and set the folder on the table.

Ethan took off his coat and sat on the sofa.

Daniel still stood.

"There's one thing that bothers me," he said.

Ethan looked at him.

"What?"

Daniel crossed his arms.

"Leonard said Marcus wasn't the one making the decision that night."

Sophia turned immediately.

"Yes. I've been thinking about that too."

Ethan nodded.

"Which means there's someone above Marcus."

Daniel added,

"Or someone Marcus fears."

The room grew quiet.

Sophia spoke softly,

"Helix has a hierarchical structure."

Ethan considered the possibility.

If Marcus was just one player…

and Leonard was the architect…

then the organization might be far bigger than they imagined.

"The thing is," said Ethan, "Leonard also didn't say he was the one who made that decision."

Daniel nodded.

"Right."

Sophia looked at the folder again.

"So who actually decided my mother's fate?"

No one could answer.

But one thing became increasingly clear.

They had just opened a door to something far larger.

The next morning, Ethan returned to the office earlier than usual.

The sky was still dark when he walked into his workspace.

But Daniel was already there, staring at a computer screen with a serious face.

"Didn't you sleep?" Ethan asked.

Daniel shook his head.

"There's something you need to see."

He turned the laptop screen around.

Several international business news articles appeared on the display.

The headline made Ethan stop in his tracks immediately.

"Sterling Biotech Pharmaceutical Company Announces New Cell Therapy Project."

Ethan read quickly.

The description was far too familiar.

Regenerative therapy.

Tissue restoration.

Technology almost identical to the Helios Project.

"This is Sophia's mother's technology," Ethan murmured.

Daniel nodded.

"Yes."

Ethan stared at the screen more sharply.

"Marcus is bold enough."

Daniel spoke softly,

"It's not Marcus."

Ethan turned to him.

"Look at the project director's name."

Ethan read the line.

But the name that appeared made him slightly surprised.

Dr. Victor Hale.

Ethan furrowed his brow.

"I've heard that name before."

Daniel opened another file.

"He was the former head of research at Sophia's mother's company."

Ethan froze.

"Is he working for Marcus now?"

Daniel nodded.

"For the past five years."

The room suddenly felt colder.

Ethan sat slowly in his chair.

"So someone from Sophia's mother's team took the technology to Marcus's company."

Daniel spoke softly,

"It's possible."

But then he added,

"Or someone forced him to."

Ethan looked at the screen again.

Pieces started to fall into place.

Sophia's mother had refused to hand over the technology.

But after her death.

one of her own researchers took the technology to Marcus's company.

It wasn't a coincidence.

It was too neat.

"Contact this man," Ethan said.

Daniel nodded.

"I already tried."

"And?"

"He's disappeared."

Ethan let out a long breath.

"Of course."

Daniel said,

"His home address has been empty since two days ago."

Ethan stood up.

"Leonard."

Daniel looked at him.

"Do you think he's the one who made him disappear?"

Ethan nodded slowly.

"If Victor Hale knows too much…"

He paused for a moment.

"…Leonard would want him to stay quiet."

Daniel crossed his arms.

"The problem is, if we want solid proof…"

Ethan finished his sentence.

"We have to find Victor Hale."

Meanwhile, in another high-rise building downtown, Marcus stood in front of his office window.

In his hand was the latest report.

About Ethan.

About the visit to the archive warehouse.

About the meeting with Leonard.

Marcus smiled slightly.

"He's moving faster than I thought."

An elderly man stood behind him.

"Is that a problem?"

Marcus shook his head.

"No."

He closed the report.

"It actually makes the game more interesting."

The elderly man asked,

"What about the Helios Project?"

Marcus stared at the city.

"Proceed."

"Isn't that too risky?"

Marcus smiled.

"If Ethan really finds the truth…"

He paused.

"…then it'll already be too late."

The elderly man nodded.

"And Sophia?"

Marcus fell silent for a moment.

His gaze shifted slightly.

"She'll understand someday."

But in his own heart, Marcus knew one thing.

If Ethan kept digging deeper.

the secret buried for twenty years could destroy more than just a company.

It could destroy the entire Sterling family.

In her apartment, Sophia sat alone in the living room.

The Helios Project folder was still open on the table.

She reread her mother's handwritten notes.

The writing was simple.

But every word felt like a message from the past.

"Don't let them finish this project."

Sophia closed her eyes slowly.

She finally understood.

Her mother hadn't just been trying to protect the technology.

She had been trying to protect the world from something bigger.

But now.

the game had started again.

And they were all already in it.

With no way out.

Meanwhile, somewhere far from the city, a black car stopped in front of a secluded house.

Inside sat a man in an expensive suit.

Leonard Graves.

He looked toward the house calmly.

Inside that house was someone very important.

Someone who held the final piece of the past puzzle.

Leonard opened the car door.

His smile was faint.

"Dr. Victor Hale…"

He walked toward the house.

"…it's time we talked again."

The house lights turned on.

And the game that had been hidden in the shadows all this time…

finally began to enter a far more dangerous phase.
