Chapter 153 - CHAPTER 153

The blue light that once filled the room now shifted gently, almost tame like a long breath after a prolonged storm.

No more wild tremors.

No more deafening alarms.

Everything felt… silent.

But not ordinary silence.

Rather, a stillness that made anyone hesitate to move.

Ethan stood right before the Helios core.

His body straight.

His gaze steady.

But something within him had changed.

Daniel was the first to dare approach again.

His steps careful.

As if one wrong move could destroy everything.

"Ethan…" his voice was soft, almost a whisper, "you're still with us, right?"

There was no immediate answer.

Seconds felt like hours.

Then Ethan shifted his gaze.

His eyes fell on Daniel.

That look… was not empty.

But not quite the same either.

"I'm here," he finally replied.

His tone was flat, without a hint of emotion.

Leonard Graves leaned his shoulder against the wall.

His hands were folded.

He watched with barely concealed interest.

"Looks like the definition of 'here' has changed," he muttered.

Daniel turned, gesturing for Leonard to hold his comments.

But the man only shrugged.

Richard Blackwood stepped forward one pace.

The distance between him and Ethan was now no more than a few meters.

"How much did you see?" he asked.

No commanding tone.

No pressure.

Only a question.

Ethan looked at him.

Seconds passed.

"I saw patterns," he said.

He turned toward the Helios core.

"Energy networks… interconnected."

He raised his hand slowly, as if feeling something in the air.

"Like nerves in a human body."

Daniel frowned.

"A global network?"

Ethan nodded slightly.

"Wider than that."

Arman Virelli took a step forward.

His eyes sparkled.

"Explain."

His voice was full of excitement, almost impatient.

Ethan did not refuse.

"This isn't just a reactor."

He pointed at the core.

"It's a node."

Leonard raised an eyebrow.

"A node means there are others."

Ethan looked at him.

"Many."

Silence fell again.

But this time it was heavier.

Daniel rubbed the back of his neck.

"So… this isn't the only one?"

Arman smiled faintly.

"My theory was correct…"

He whispered softly, almost to himself.

Richard stared sharply.

"You never mentioned that."

Arman did not turn.

"Because I wasn't sure."

He finally looked toward Ethan.

"Now I am."

Leonard sighed.

"Wonderful. We don't just have one problem—we have a network of them."

Daniel swallowed.

"Where are the other nodes located?"

Ethan was silent for a moment.

His eyes closed.

As if searching.

Seconds later, he opened them again.

"Some… are hidden."

He stepped slowly away from the core.

"Some are active."

He paused.

"And one… is almost awakening."

Richard reacted at once.

"Location?"

Ethan shook his head slightly.

"Not clear yet."

Arman cut in,

"If another node becomes fully active, the network will synchronize."

Daniel tensed immediately.

"What does that mean?"

Arman replied softly,

"Either a global energy explosion… or permanent stability."

Leonard let out a long breath.

"Two extreme options. Nothing simple about it."

Ethan spoke up,

"The problem isn't just that."

Everyone looked at him.

Ethan continued,

"This network isn't neutral."

He looked at Arman.

"It learns."

The silence suddenly turned cold.

Daniel whispered,

"Do you mean… it's adaptive?"

Ethan nodded.

"Yes."

Leonard raised his hands.

"Okay, this just keeps getting worse."

Richard remained focused.

"If this is true, then we're not just facing technology."

Ethan looked at him.

"No."

He paused for a moment.

"It's something older than technology."

Arman let out a long breath.

His expression shifted.

For the first time, awe mixed with something else.

"Collective energy consciousness…"

He whispered.

Daniel stared sharply at him.

"Don't start naming things."

Leonard smirked.

"Names always make dangerous things sound friendlier."

Ethan walked toward the center of the room.

Each step was calm.

But felt… certain.

"I can hold it back."

He said.

"For now."

Richard looked at him deeply.

"How long?"

Ethan did not answer right away.

He looked at his own hands.

As if examining something invisible.

"Not forever."

Daniel let out a heavy breath.

"So we have a time limit."

Leonard added,

"And unclear targets."

Arman stepped closer.

"We have to find the other nodes before it becomes fully active."

Richard turned sharply.

"We?"

His tone shifted again.

Cold.

Arman met his gaze without hesitation.

"We have no choice."

Silence.

Then Leonard let out a small laugh.

"I never thought I'd see cooperation like this."

Daniel said,

"Let's focus on the next step first."

He looked at Ethan.

"Can you track the node?"

Ethan closed his eyes again.

Longer this time.

The room fell silent once more.

Only breathing could be heard.

Seconds passed.

Then

he opened his eyes.

His gaze was sharper.

"I have a direction."

He turned to the west.

"Far from here."

Richard moved at once.

"We leave now."

Daniel nodded.

"I'll prepare the exit route."

Leonard pushed himself off the wall.

"Finally, we're moving again."

But before anyone could take a step

a low sound came from the Helios core.

Not an alarm.

Not machinery.

Something different.

Everyone turned.

The blue light pulsed once.

Stronger.

Deeper.

Ethan stopped immediately.

His expression changed.

"It's responding."

Arman spoke quickly,

"That's impossible—"

But he fell silent.

Because the data on the screens shifted.

Graphs rose.

Patterns changed.

Leonard sighed.

"Of course it wouldn't be that easy."

Daniel spoke in panic,

"What's happening now?!"

Ethan stared at the core.

His voice was low.

But clear.

"The other node…"

He paused for a moment.

"…is already active."

Silence crashed down like a hammer blow.

Richard turned at once.

"Where?"

Ethan lifted his head.

His eyes reflected blue light.

"Same direction."

He said.

"And faster than we thought."

Arman stepped back.

For the first time—

doubt appeared on his face.

"Then…"

He whispered.

"…it's already begun."

Leonard smiled faintly.

"And we're right in the middle of it."

Daniel looked at Ethan.

"What do we do?"

Ethan stood straight.

His gaze was sharp.

His decision clear.

"We go there."

He stepped toward the door.

"Now."

No one argued.

Because everyone knew

they had already passed the point of no return.

And out there

something was awakening.

Something that might not be stopped.

But still had to be faced.

Whatever the risk.
