The room was freezing cold with the window open, but I couldn't get myself to stand up from the bed.
Charlotte hadn't returned to the room after our argument. I checked the spot she had taken me, every single class, the assembly hall, even the library after I'd sworn never to go back there. But she was nowhere to be found.
Her friends didn't know where she was either.
So I stayed up in our room, waiting for when she'd sneak back in. But no matter how many doors I heard creak open in the night, none of them was Charlotte coming back to me.
I laid there into the early hours of the morning, and only got up when the dorm mistress came in to announce that were to assemble in the hall with our bags. We were finally going on the field trip.
With cold hands I shoved my clothes into the bag, went through my morning routine and joined the rest of the students.
"Your side kick not with you today?"
