Chapter 34: Kurapika

After sitting in the private room for a long time, Kurapika's emotions finally settled.

"Big Brother Ronin, you..." Kurapika hesitated for a long time before asking, "Were you in the village?"

"I was," Ronin nodded. "My father saved me, but he was killed by Uvogin on the way out."

"So Uvogin really is a member of the Phantom Troupe! And the two with him are accomplices!" Kurapika's eyes, having just returned to normal, turned Scarlet again with rage.

"Yes," Ronin poured Kurapika a glass of water. "What do you plan to do?"

"Revenge!" Kurapika answered without hesitation.

"Can you win?" Ronin asked again.

Kurapika fell silent.

Ronin smiled with relief. His biggest worry was that Kurapika would charge at them suicidally upon discovering their identities.

That was why he rushed to the restaurant after hearing from Milia about Kurapika's movements.

Part of his strength came from the Kurta Clan's eyes. Protecting Kurapika within reason was his duty, a way of repaying the clan.

Besides, Kurapika had immense investment value.

Also, after a month in this world, Ronin was certain of one thing.

He was better suited for combat.

Scheming and planning weren't his forte.

But the meticulous Kurapika excelled at that.

With their kinship, Ronin was certain Kurapika wouldn't betray him!

Even if Kurapika found out he was fusing eyes to get stronger, Ronin didn't think Kurapika would turn against him!

In fact, Ronin felt Kurapika could help him collect the eyes.

Of course, if they fell out, they would part ways.

But he hoped it wouldn't come to that.

He liked Kurapika's character in the manga, and his predecessor's memories of Kurapika were very positive.

Kurapika shook his head. "I can feel it. The gap between us... it's a chasm."

"Yes, your feeling is correct," Ronin confirmed. "Fighting them now is hitting a rock with an egg."

"What about you, Big Brother?" Kurapika looked at Ronin expectantly.

Ronin shook his head. "I'm still far off."

Even with Milia's rented aura as a trump card, Ronin wasn't confident about the upcoming gamble with the Troupe.

But he liked it. He enjoyed challenging the strong.

Perhaps he was born a warrior!

If not, after escaping, he should have changed his name and hidden. Instead, he stood in the spotlight.

When Milia found him, he had to admit he was excited.

Not just about being a star, but about the impending danger.

So he followed his heart, partnered with Milia, and set his plans in motion.

The only pity was not finding a third pair of eyes before fighting Uvogin!

If he had a third pair, the gap would be smaller, and his chances of killing Uvogin would be higher!

Kurapika's eyes dimmed. "Then..."

"But even with the gap, I'm going to tear a chunk of flesh off those bastards!" A ruthless look crossed Ronin's face.

Being chased repeatedly would anger a saint, let alone someone who hated holding grudges overnight.

Seeing Ronin like this, Kurapika was surprised for a moment, then looked at him with admiration!

Big Brother Ronin is so reliable!

"Big Brother, we can wait!" Kurapika tried to be rational.

He wanted to tear the Troupe apart, but he didn't want to lose Ronin.

But thinking that Ronin was about to fight Uvogin—his father's killer—Kurapika felt his persuasion was weak.

"No, I've made arrangements. I won't die. But you... if you trust me, listen to me. Leave Heaven's Arena now." Ronin looked solemn. "I'll find you after I deal with things here. Then we'll take back our clan's eyes together!"

"Okay."

Kurapika agreed without thinking.

Ronin looked at him and fell silent for a moment. Then his eyes hardened. "When we meet again, I'll tell you a secret. I hope you'll still trust and support me then!"

Kurapika sensed the gravity in Ronin's tone.

He got nervous, his mind racing.

The only bad thing he could imagine was that Ronin wouldn't actually come to meet him.

Does that mean...

"Don't overthink it. I don't joke with my life," Ronin saw through him. He patted Kurapika's shoulder and smiled. "Go to Mordin City. I'll join you once I'm done here."

After sending the reluctant Kurapika away, Ronin returned to Heaven's Arena, relieved.

Now, he just had to prepare for the fight with Uvogin!

Three days passed quickly.

In the lounge, Ronin took the contract from Milia. It showed the quantified aura: 15,000.

This time, Ronin signed without hesitation. The abstract stick-figure Rental Demon jumped from Milia's shoulder to Ronin's.

"You should leave too. Things might go off the rails, and I probably won't be back here for a while after this fight," Ronin said regretfully.

The partnership with Milia had been great.

She was professional, and her ability was a massive boost.

"So where are you going next?" Milia didn't rush to leave. "You've been investigating the Mafia recently. That's a profitable business. And I think you're not good at management. Want to continue our partnership?"

"Agents expand into new businesses too?" Ronin tilted his head.

"Yeah. Making money!" Milia smiled. This time, she didn't hide her hands; she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

As expected, Ronin's gaze lingered on her exquisite hands.

"Sure."

Ronin turned. "Next stop is Mordin City. I assume you already knew that."

"Of course," Milia said with concern. "Don't die."

"Don't worry!" Ronin waved his hand, walking out of the shadows of the tunnel and into the spotlight, greeted by the passionate introduction of the host.

At that moment, the audience erupted in a frenzy of cheers!
