Nora's POV
"We need to move now!" I shout to James, and without hesitation he sweeps me into his arms. His vampire speed carries us through the dense forest like a blur of shadow and moonlight. The wendigo may be fast, but James has centuries of predatory instincts driving him forward. Still, with that thing pumped full of demonic energy, I can't be certain we'll escape its clutches.
I press my face against James's chest and reach out mentally to my familiars, sending urgent warnings about the creature hunting us through the woods.
James comes to an abrupt halt, and I lift my head to see where we are. We've reached our house, the place we've been calling home together, but there's no magical protection here. Nothing to keep that monster at bay.
James vaults onto the front porch in one fluid motion. I slide from his embrace and hurry down the steps, extending both hands toward the perimeter of our property.
