Nora's POV
"Nice try, princess," the hunter with the crossbow mocks me. His jeans are stained with dirt and his boots caked with mud. I can see exactly what he thinks when he looks at me. Just another pretty girl with curves, completely out of place in these dark woods.
He thinks I'm helpless.
Big mistake.
"Step aside and let the men handle this."
I raise an eyebrow and snap my wrist forward, driving the crossbow's end straight into his sneering face. He stumbles backward, blood streaming from his nose, while his two companions swing their guns toward me.
"Anyone else feeling brave tonight?" I spread my fingers wide, sending crackling sparks of magic dancing through the air around us.
"That witch has powers," the man James is restraining gasps out.
"She does," James rumbles in agreement, spinning around to hurl the hunter toward his friends' feet. "And she's mine."
He moves to stand beside me, fangs gleaming in the magical light I've created.
