Chapter 1 - Snow Doesn’t Fall When You’re Gone

🌸 CHAPTER 1 The Seat Beside the Window

The classroom was noisy.

Students were laughing, talking, throwing paper balls. But Kaito Fuyuzora sat quietly on the last bench, beside the window.

He was fifteen.

Snow-white light from outside touched his face. His hair was light blue, almost shining in the sunlight. His eyes were magenta, but today they looked dull.

He liked this seat.

Not because of the view. But because she once sat here.

"Kaito."

A soft voice called his name.

He turned.

Reina Kimizaki stood there, holding a notebook close to her chest.

White hair.Blue eyes.A calm smile that could stop time.

"Can I sit here?" she asked.

Kaito nodded quickly. "Y-Yeah."

She sat beside him.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

The wind entered through the window, gently moving Reina's hair. Kaito noticed his heart beating faster.

Why is it always like this when she's near? he thought.

"You didn't come to school yesterday," Reina said softly.

"I… wasn't feeling well."

She looked at him carefully.

"You should rest more," she said. "You always look tired."

Kaito smiled a little.Someone cared.

That was enough to make his day.

The teacher entered, and the class became quiet.

But Kaito couldn't focus.

Because Reina's sleeve brushed his arm.

Just a small touch.

Yet his face turned red.

Reina noticed and smiled.

"Cute," she whispered.

Kaito froze.

"W-What?"

She laughed quietly. "Nothing."

But for Kaito, that single word stayed in his heart.

Cute…

After school, students slowly left the classroom.

Kaito was packing his bag when Reina spoke again.

"Kaito, are you free tomorrow?"

His heart skipped.

"Y-Yes."

"There's a bookshop near the station," she said. "Will you come with me?"

For a second, Kaito forgot how to breathe.

"Of course," he replied.

Reina smiled—warm and gentle.

"Then it's a promise."

As she walked away, Kaito looked at the window.

Outside, tiny snowflakes began to fall.

He didn't know why.

But he felt happy.

And afraid.

Because happiness like this…never stayed for long.
