Chapter 11 - Going Home

I loosed three MMs at the feather headed bastard and charged another to get between them and their captures. My fist splattered a skull as the rest of the enemies got wiped out. I immediately located Moore and linked my eyebot to her with a voice command. She was supported by one of the majors as she had for some reason lost a leg. The other major was supported by one of the surviving engineers as he'd lost his eyes.

I grabbed Moore as the blind major was grabbed by Clay. We quickly armed the rest and made a beeline for Searchlight. Halfway there we were intercepted by a large group of elites. Unfortunately for the enemy I'd equipped all of us with God Complex. Two exo soldiers and one heavy trooper used the drug and charged. The enemy was brutally beaten by three heavily armed and armored super soldiers.

The heavy trooper simply ran through them, allowing the exo soldiers to cut into the broken formation like a lightsaber through flesh. The last enemy, a centurion, tried to challenge the heavy trooper but got split in half by a micro missile. As we arrived we found the town in a desperate evacuation. Legion had snuck in and opened some radioactive waste containers and poisoned the town. Fortunately we were able to get through to the small NCR camp outside town and leave everyone there while the paladins and I went in and removed the waste by rolling it down the hill from the town. The town would be livable after a few years which was good as I was planning to figure out planes at McCarran and have Searchlight airport taken for a new military base.

After removing the waste we left Searchlight and went with all the NCR forces from the town and everyone that survived it, to Ranger Station Charlie to wait for vehicles sent by Oliver. It took four days for two long range tanks and their convoy of armored vehicles to get to us. One of the armored vehicles was left for the rangers and the convoy gunned it to Novac to start settling the civilians.

We got lots of nice scrap from the town including some weapons like That Gun and my prized MF Hyperbreeder Alpha. I marked the Repconn test site for looting and had some of my men investigate the motel owner. They found some communications with the legion and we promptly arrested her. I used my authority to place some men in charge of the motel and use some rooms as garrison.

I bought a lot of stuff from the old lady down the road at the scrap yard and raided an old gas station. We passed by Helios One and finally entered friendly territory. The BOS marked that line as they patrolled the area heavily with vehicles and modified bots while NCR and BOS kept a lookout for items they wanted at the 188. When we finally got back to the dam I dropped Moore off in her office and immediately started work on my newest project.

With the MF Hyperbreeder Alpha design, Clay and I completed changed all our designs and scheduled most things for an upgrade. After starting that we upgraded all our existing MF Breeders into Hyperbreeders. The new project I had was pretty easy to do as the only complication was the sensor type needed for connecting to the nervous system.

I got ahold of one from the BOS and reverse engineered it. With the power of the NCR supply line with the vehicles we quickly got the machinery to produce more of them. After that I had to awkwardly take measurements of Moore stump then build the leg to be perfectly fitted. The surgery to put the leg on her was simple enough as we attached it to her remaining bone and connected the sensors.

After that the surgery was complete and I waited for her to wake. She woke up groggy and grumpy but I met that with lots of good coffee and painkillers. When she was in a better mood I finally installed her leg. I slotted the leg into the mount connected to her bone and closed up the shell. The leg was full of sensors to allow the nerve sensors to replicate the lost senses.

This to was quite awkward as I had to poke and prod at her leg, foot, and toes to make sure they were all functioning correctly. She nearly kicked me in the face at one point as she tested her new knee. She thanked my profusely after the testing was complete and I went back to my power armor work.

The few people working with me on power armor gave me weird looks till I found out that they'd wire tapped the room for some reason. Moore somehow found out about it also and put everyone but Clay and I on a supply run to Boulder City, with them jogging beside the convoy.

The power armor I was working on was my personal set but was so far pretty basic. I kept it heavily armored but sacrificed some systems to slim the armor down some. I'd made the helmet by combining a ranger riot helmet with the a T-51 helmet. It looked pretty damn menacing when I completed it and put it on. The hud had a radar based mini map, night and thermal vision, and a targeting system meant to replicate VATS.

When I completed the armor and showed it off Oliver and Moore both ordered suits like mine for themselves and some more for the rangers.

With my suit done and more suits being made I worked on a project that had been waiting for a while. It was a backpack system with four Mr.Handy arms and a simple AI to support users with anything that might be needed. As the fourth month of the year came I completed the support arms and put them on multiple exoskeletons and all power armor that passed through the base.

Finally after finishing the arms I got the call I'd been expecting for some time. My service period was ending at four years in and the NCR would want to get everything they could out of me. I was being sent to Camp McCarran in hopes of getting some of the planes there in working order and maybe get some in the sky. As I left I got goodbyes from the people I knew and perhaps a dissatisfied look from Moore. She was probably upset that I'd no longer be building more tech for her to kill enemies with. I left the dam with three tanks, a long range tank, and five armored vehicles all loaded with men. We'd be dropping most of the at Camp Golf then we'd go west and cut north to get to McCarran.

It took us two days to get to McCarran and we had to stomp on the fiends on the way. When we finally got to the place I did a lot of paperwork then immediately got to work reverse engineering the planes here. The OSI asshole here tried to intervene but I had one of my remaining exo soldiers keep him away. It took me three months, and lots of reading of care manuals from what had been saved or recovered, to get a plane to fly. The engines were the only real complication with learning how to fly a close second. We had five crashes, without casualties, till a pilot got in the air and flew for an hour, then landed.

Eventually I started work on a second version with two pilots, lots of weapons and sensors, and lots of back up ways to get to the ground. With a plane complete I made proper blueprints of it and the pilots made a small course for learning.

In my last bit of time before leaving the military I was promoted to lieutenant. I wasn't given much to do with the promotion besides set up a proper program for making a real Air Force. I squeezed ten tanks and fifteen armored vehicles from General Oliver and took them to Searchlight Airport. I sent for the NCR to send some captains and a major here while ordering massive amounts of concrete to build proper defenses around the airport.

After that I ordered lots of bots and men sent to me as well as lots of engineers to get planes working. The legion attempted to sabotage things but the forces at the dam kept them occupied enough for their attack to be squashed. I eventually got tired of them and sent an eyebot to blow open the back of the truck above the cove which annihilated the forces there.

The NCR, after a while, sent the same major that had taken over Pahrump to command here. He and his captains did an amazing job so I shifted all my work into them. They had flown in on one of the NCRs only vertibirds so I immediately started studying it. That was what reminded me of the old enclave people here in the Mojave. I sent a truck to grab the old lady in Novac and convinced her to help me make a new vertical flight vehicle.

In my remaining time as a lieutenant at the base, Daisy and I built a proper VTOL. It was long and beautiful and didn't look like the mechanical equivalent to a bumblebee. Daisy and a pilot she trained took the first flight and the first flight of the Golden Eagle. Soon after we completed the VTOL, president kimball ordered five of them. That however was left to the developing facilities of Searchlight Air Force Base.

Daisy decided to stay at the base to spread her love of flying to others and even found an apprentice who loved flying just as much as she did. When my tour finally ended I and a few others, including multiple exo soldiers, were called back to Shady Sands. Only a few of the men who rode back home with us hadn't been at the Battle of Hoover Dam. Those of us who had been there and fought in it would be given medals in a celebration of sorts where Kimball would pin a medal on our chests.

The medal would eventually be given to all those who survived the battle and it had been designed as a curved line with a capital H below it and a winged angle on either side. It was of course mostly a publicity stunt but I didn't mind it. It was a way to mark survivors from that bloody slog. Sometime during my stay at Searchlight a captured centurion spilled the beans on how they had gotten so many people.

They had gathered a massive amount of slaves and brainwashed them with drugs and torture. Then they dressed them up in legion uniforms and gave them weapons. Then they were thrown at us as blood filled cannon fodder. When that had been leaked it had tanked morale and caused some to break down. I had always expected something dark and horrible like that so it didn't hit as hard for me as it did others.

I'd locked myself in my office for a few days till Daisy and a few of my exo soldiers dragged me out. The old lady was good at helping with trauma and had helped some of my men as all the exo soldiers I had with me at the time were from those few who had escaped from the dam and been trained later. Some good had come of the time I had locked myself away however. I wasn't content with sitting there and seething so I designed a few things and made some plans.

The first thing I made was a massively powerful plasma torch. Next was a large hover bike based on the stuff from Star Wars. Last was a plan for moving forward. The plan was to gather my men after all the military stuff was done and make a company. I held the rights to produce and sell most of what I'd created so getting production started was the only concern. Once we had a company I'd take some men and go to the Mojave to make a main company in New Vegas. From there we'd expand a massive network of eyebots and take anything we could get our hands on.

I had made the plasma torch in order to cut open the remnants bunker and take everything of worth in there. After that we'd continue to expand and maybe build something like the brotherhood blimps. With the blimps we could make some branches to our company and become a real faction. I could probably go to the commonwealth and take the institute and use synths to infiltrate and integrate other factions.

After that I'd begin securing the U.S to make it stable and after that move on to improving the world.
