"There is nothing above us."
I said looking at the sky.
There was nothing there except the sun and moon.
Nothing, especially not her.
"Sweetie, just because you can't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
It's there. It always has been there, forever preserved in its glory."
I once again looked up trying to see if there was any smell , still nothing.
It was all empty, only the gaze of the sun remained in the empty sky.
"Oh so you also learned how to smell, did that small woman teach you that? Well not that it matters to me."
She said looking a bit disappointed.
"What are you trying to tell me? I don't understand puzzles."
I said.
It was all confusing.
"The girl you are looking for is above the us.
At the source of the madness. "
The stars shined in the morning sky.
I kept on looking at the sky.
Nothing changed.
It was all the same to me.
"You can't see what's not visible boy. The old one made sure you can't, " she paused "you need to be there to see it, like a one way mirror."
"How can I be somewhere I can't even see? I don't even know where to start."
"Well sweetie, that's none of my concern now is it? You'll have to do some work on your own won't you?"
She said, smirking.
I understood what she meant, she didn't want to help any further not because she couldn't but because she was bored.
It was obvious from her experience.
"I'll take my leave then." I said, turning back and leaving.
There was no point in staying, at the very least I could recover some strength back home.
"Bye sweetie, I am sure we'll meet again if the hands of fate wish it so. " She said before disappearing herself.
I travelled through the forest, slowly and carefully.
I was in no condition to fight anyone or anything.
I could hear the noise of leaves being stepped on by the wild animals searching for food.
I had to stay away.
I had to.
I made my way back to the city gates.
The situation there hadn't been improved, the king continued to ignore the need of others.
The streets were filled with blood.
There was a thick fog covering the entire street.
In that fog, a figure emerged.
Black coat, black pouch , a white crow mask and white leather gloves.
He stood there staring at me.
His face was obscured by the fog, but I could tell he was moving his mouth, speaking something.
Some other language. Or maybe complete gibberish.
I heightened my senses, to look out for any danger.
Nothing.
No smell.
It was as if the person infront of me wasn't there.
As if an illusion.
But I know it's not an illusion.
I can't be.
I slowly walked forward pretending not to see him.
I didn't want to acknowledge something that I couldn't sense.
If I did, I would have to pay the price.
The price for seeing the truth.
I can't afford such a price.
I walked forward.
Passing the figure, until I reached my home.
I could feel his gaze over me.
It was intense.
He kept on staring at me as if I was amusement to him.
I opened my door and went inside.
The moment I stepped in, I closed the door behind me.
As fast as I could.
I didn't want that thing near me.
I took a sign of relief and headed towards my bedroom.
"Goodmorning sir, I am a travelling merchant, may I interest you in some goods?" It said, sitting on my bed.
