Chapter 39 - The Core and Its Fragments

Ashrik felt as if a boulder had been lifted off his chest after telling Lucille everything. To his relief, her reaction was better than he had initially expected.

Perhaps because she had heard far worse yesterday.

The remaining soy milk had cooled down entirely. If Isaac was here, Ashrik would have asked the fire wielder to reheat it just by holding the steel pitcher.

He tilted his chin up, gazing at the gentle blue sky above. Thin, white clouds were scattered as they drifted lazily across the horizon. Half of the sun hid behind the clouds.

As always, an unreal kind of serenity surrounded the space. It was a kind of peace that no longer existed outside, in the world ruined by the apocalypse.

"Wait for me here." Ashrik stood up, his eyes returned to Lucille across the table. "I'll get the Stone and the fragments. I'll bring you to visit Vivi as promised."
