After the twins were asleep, Asher found himself on the balcony again.
Kael joined him silently, standing beside him at the railing.
"Detective Morrison is investigating," Kael said. "The message came from another burner phone. But they're working on it."
"She'll never stop."
"Then I'll get a restraining order. And if she violates it, she goes to jail."
"And if she's not the one sending the messages?"
"Then we find out who is and stop them too."
They stood in silence for a moment.
"Asher?"
"Yeah?"
"What Vanessa said about me getting bored—"
"You don't have to—"
"I do. Because I need you to understand." Kael turned to face him. "I'm not going anywhere. Not now. Not ever. You and Kai and Lily—you're my family. My forever."
"You can't promise forever."
"Watch me. I'll prove it to you. Every single day. However long it takes."
Asher looked at him. At the determination in his eyes. The sincerity.
