Across the city. Private dining room. Damian and Vanessa.
They hadn't met in person for two weeks. Vanessa had been getting nervous. Asking questions. Demanding updates.
Damian had been busy.
"Four weeks," Vanessa said. "You've been completely quiet for four weeks. The police investigation is stalling. The restraining order paperwork is buried. Kael's guard is completely down."
"I know," Damian said.
"So?"
"So it's time." He set down his wine glass. "I've been watching. Their security rotation has gaps now. Predictable gaps. Kael takes the twins to school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Asher works late on Wednesday evenings. The overnight guard rotation changed last week."
"How do you know all that?"
Damian smiled pleasantly and didn't answer.
"When?" Vanessa asked.
"Soon. I need one more thing in place." He looked at her. "I need you to create a distraction. Something that pulls Kael away from the penthouse at a specific time."
"What kind of distraction?"
