Chapter 24 - Read it yourself

Malenia moved first. She stepped forward and then vanished. Scarlet petals burst outward as she reappeared amid Kirigakure's front line. Her blade flashed once—then again—then again.

"Waterfowl Dance."

The first flurry cut through the vanguard before they could raise their jutsu in protest. The second struck, tearing through them like butter. The river of blood flowed like water. Shinobi collapsed without screams, without time to react.

Malenia landed lightly, already moving. A sweep of her blade sent a crimson arc through the mist—"Crimson Sweep"—forcing Kiri's remaining forces to retreat in panic. Those touched by it didn't fall immediately. They felt a burning sensation and then nothing. Their chakra vanished, and they slowly lost their vision and strength, falling one by one.

"What the hell is happening? How are people just falling without any wounds?"

Across the battlefield, Iwagakure launched its attack in an attempt to intercept the demon. Shinobi formed hand seals, sending several rocks and spears aimed at Malenia.

Malenia vanished again before the attack could reach her. She dashed forward, leaving afterimages in her wake—"Phantom Slash." Iwa shinobi blocked the first cut, but then the echoes struck. Although they blocked it, they still felt severely injured. To make matters worse, those damned red tails seemed to be something lurking behind her.

She leapt high, pausing in midair for a heartbeat before driving her blade downward—"Aerial Sever." The impact shattered the ground, throwing shinobi into disarray. Some were cut in half, while others died even after avoiding a direct attack. Curiously, they had no wounds.

Fear spread. This wasn't a battle anymore. It was a massacre.

Malenia floated in the sky with wings at her back. The shinobi's eyes filled with fear as they beheld the majestic figure above them. They could do nothing but wait as death slowly consumed them. Within minutes, both armies were broken.

As Malenia looked down upon the battlefield, her gaze searched for the Kages, a faint unease stirring within her. She hadn't seen them since the explosions. That was when her instincts screamed.

Her figure vanished in a red blur.

A heartbeat later, the space she had occupied was consumed by light.

"Dust Release."

The Tsuchikage's voice cut through the chaos as the jutsu erased everything in its path—air, earth, and chakra alike. Nothing remained. Except Malenia was already elsewhere.

She reappeared behind him, scarlet petals trailing in her wake, her boots touching the ground without a sound. The Tsuchikage's eyes widened.

Too late.

Just as Malenia raised her blade and smoothly passed through the Tsuchikage, no blood splattered. His figure blurred and vanished into the mist.

"Hōzuki Clan genjutsu technique."

Malenia vanished as a blast of pressurised water tore through the space where her neck had been. The strike carved a trench across the battlefield before detonating against the cliffs behind. Gengetsu Hōzuki emerged from the mist, hovering above the ground, his form partially fluid—half-solid, half-liquid. His eyes were sharp now, all humour gone.

"So even Mū's invisibility technique stood no chance against her speed. Tch, this is troublesome," the Mizukage stated.

Mū drifted backwards, reforming his stance, Dust Release gathering again. His gaze never left her.

"She's not human," he said flatly. "Do not let her close the distance."

Malenia straightened. The red veins beneath the ground pulsed brighter. Wings behind her flowed slowly.

"I was wondering," she said quietly, "when you'd stop hiding."

Gengetsu smirked faintly. "Careful. Two Kage standing together usually means the end of something."

Malenia broke into laughter and lifted her sword. The air around the blade began to distort.

"HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA You are welcome to try. Let me remind you again, I, Malenia, have never known defeat," she said

Mū immediately started gathering chakra in his hands. Dust Release expanded in a widening cone. The technique swallowed space itself, reducing everything it touched into nothingness.

At the same time, Gengetsu clapped his hands.

The mist thickened violently.

Figures emerged from it—dozens of them. Each carried the same chakra signature as himself.

Malenia stepped forward.

The Dust Release brushed her cloak—

—and stopped.

The scarlet veins beneath the ground flared.

A pulse spread outward. The Dust Release distorted, its shape warping as if the chakra composing it had begun to rot from within. It collapsed in on itself, dispersing harmlessly into the air.

Mū's eyes widened for the first time.

"What—"

Gengetsu didn't wait.

The water clones attacked in unison. Blades of pressurised water tore through the air, cutting down shinobi who were too close, turning the battlefield into chaos.

Malenia vanished again.

When she reappeared, she was placed a special kunai down and looked at the kiri shinobi around her.

Her blade swung once.

Scarlet light traced an arc.

Those in its pathway simply fell. This unstoppable force tore through them.

Their armour corroded mid-air. Steel flaked away like rusted leaves. Flesh darkened, veins blackening as their inner organs began to rot from the wound outward, devouring chakra, strength and their life.

No screams lasted more than a second.

"This isn't poison," a Kiri shinobi choked, collapsing. "It's eating me—"

He never finished.

Gengetsu felt it then.

This was something far more dangerous.

Decay.

"Pull back!" he shouted. "Do not let her touch you!"

Too late.

Malenia leapt.

She descended like a falling blade, striking the ground with her sword.

"Scarlet Aeonia."

The earth cracked.

From the impact point, a massive flower erupted—petals unfurling violently, first closed tight like a sealed curse, then bursting open all at once, scattering across the battlefield.

A wave of scarlet rot rolled outward.

Shinobi caught within it withered.

Chakra pathways collapsed. Muscles weakened. Bones failed. Bodies fell as if life itself had been switched off.

The battlefield went silent.

On the far side—

Mū retreated sharply, forming distance, his breathing shallow. His Dust Release flickered, unstable.

"This thing is fcking dangerous as hell," he roared

Gengetsu clenched his teeth, water hardening around his body.

"So that's it," he said. "A plague wearing human skin."

Malenia rose from the centre of the blooming flower, petals drifting around her like falling embers. Her eyes were calm.

Malenia looked at them and smiled. The preparation was already done.

Then a purple barrier surged upward, rising from all sides, forming a perfect square around the battlefield.

Shinobi panicked.

They struck the barrier with jutsu, blades, brute force—nothing worked.

Malenia glanced at the withering ground… then at her own hand.

Gengetsu appeared before her in a ripple of water."Malenia," he said sharply. "Let the shinobi go. We'll fight you."

Mū materialised beside him, his expression grim. They understood now—if this continued, their shinobis would fall endlessly. If these shinobi died, then there would be no kiri or Iwa village. SO

For the village.

Malenia considered them.

Then she slammed her hand into the ground.

The barrier shrank violently, ejecting shinobi one by one, throwing them clear of the field like discarded pieces.

It stopped only when three figures remained.

Malenia frowned slightly… then expanded the barrier again, sealing only the three of them inside.

Across the battlefield, Flying Thunder God formulas began to surface—etched into stone, scorched into earth, gleaming faintly in scarlet light.

She stood upright and looked down at them.

A slow, delighted smile curved her lips.

"Let's enjoy this little mouse-and-cat run," she said softly.

Then—

 GO RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!"

The moment her words left the air

Malenia vanished

in a red flash.

She simply wasn't there anymore.

Gengetsu felt it first.

A pressure on his back. Too close.

He twisted instinctively, his body liquefying just as a scarlet blade passed through the space his neck had occupied a fraction of a second earlier. The strike cleaved the air itself, the aftershock carving a trench through the ground behind him.

She reappeared atop a distant formula, wings folding slowly.

"So fast…" Gengetsu muttered, reforming. His eyes darted across the battlefield. "This demon."

Mū didn't answer.

He was already moving.

Dust Release flared as he split himself, vanishing into invisibility, drifting upward to gain distance. He couldn't die helplessly now.

A mistake.

The ground beneath him pulsed.

A symbol ignited.

Malenia appeared above him.

Mū's eyes snapped wide.

Her sword came down.

He barely forced Dust Release between them, erasing the space where the blade would have struck. The technique burned his chakra violently, destabilising his form as he was thrown back.

He hit the ground hard, coughing.

"She already blocked our every escape," he growled. "Those markings. We are cooked"

Gengetsu grinned tightly. "Then we break the board."

He slammed his hands together.

The mist thickened again—denser than before. Mirage Gengetsu spread across the field, dozens upon dozens, overlapping. The real one submerged into the water beneath the earth itself.

For a brief moment—

Nothing happened.

Then a shinobi scream echoed from the barrier.

Both Kage froze.

Malenia stood at the centre of the field, unmoving.

Her wings slowly unfolded.

Scarlet rot bled into the symbols.

"One," she whispered.

A second scream. Farther away.

"Two."

Gengetsu's mirages began to dissolve.

Mū pushed himself up. "She's counting…"

Malenia tilted her head.

"Hide better."

She vanished again.

This time, Gengetsu felt it inside the water.

Something invaded his liquid body. His chakra destabilised violently as rot spread through the water composing him.

He erupted from the ground, reforming hastily, coughing.

"That thing—!" he snarled. "It infects the chakra itself!"

Malenia appeared in front of him.

Too close.

Gengetsu reacted instantly, exploding into water, reforming behind her and launching a compressed water bullet straight at her spine.

It struck.

Her body lurched and then stopped.

She turned her head slowly.

The wound was already closing, scarlet veins knitting flesh back together.

Gengetsu's smile vanished.

"Three."

Mū launched Dust Release at full output.

The technique expanded, swallowing Malenia entirely.

For a moment, there was nothing.

Then the Dust Release rotted.

The jutsu collapsed inward, destabilised, and from within it—

Malenia stepped out.

Her wings unfurled fully now.

Petals drifted endlessly.

Mū staggered back, breath ragged.

"This is impossible…"

Malenia raised her sword, pointing it at them.

"No," she corrected calmly. "This is inevitable."

Gengetsu wiped water from his mouth, eyes sharp despite the rot creeping through his chakra. "Mū," he said quietly, "we can't win this battle."

Mū didn't argue. His body flickered, struggling to maintain cohesion. "Then we take her with us too!"

They moved together.

Gengetsu surged forward first, his body splitting into liquid blades, the battlefield flooding instantly. The water rose, twisting into spears.

At the same time, Mū gathered everything he had left.

Dust Release.

Condensed.

A single, lethal point aimed straight at her heart.

Malenia didn't backdown.

She stepped forward.

The water reached her first—wrapped around her legs, her arms, trying to pull her.

Scarlet veins ignited beneath the surface. Then the water fell.

It collapsed into useless liquid as rot spread through Gengetsu's chakra like a sickness.

He staggered.

"Damn you—!"

Malenia was already gone.

She appeared before Mū.

His Dust Release fired.

For a fraction of a second, it struck her chest.

And then again

It simply… died.

The chakra composed, collapsing into dust that fell harmlessly to the ground.

Mū stared.

"I see," he whispered. "So we couldn't even resist."

Malenia's blade pierced through him.

The rot spread instantly, eroding his form, destabilising his chakra until his body could no longer maintain itself.

Mū fell to his knees.

"This war…" he said quietly, looking up at her, "…was doomed the moment you stepped onto the field."

His body dissolved

Gengetsu roared.

He launched himself forward, forming his body into a massive surge meant to overwhelm her entirely as a last effort.

Malenia met him head-on.

She leapt.

Her wings carried her upward as she spun, blade flashing.

"Waterfowl Dance."

She struck once.

Twice.

Thrice.

Each cut is unavoidable.

Gengetsu's body split apart, reforming again and again—until it couldn't.

The rot seeped through his liquid form, infecting every drop.

He collapsed, reforming weakly on the ground, coughing, his chakra shattered.

He looked up at her and laughed weakly.

"So you were just playing with us from the start. haha Fuck You Uzumakis."

Malenia stood over him.

Her blade fell

The barrier dissolved.

The battlefield went still.

Where two great villages were supposed to fight each other ended up allying to kill the demon, but still, they stood no chance.

Scarlet petals drifted across the ruined land as Malenia turned away, wings folding slowly behind her.
