Chapter 5 - Gentle voice

Lang Zuo and Lang You nodded, both of them showing traces of embarrassment.

They didn't know much about what had happened in the previous generation. All they knew was that this crazy female hadn't originally belonged to the Wolf Tribe—she had been brought here by her beast-father.

When ferocious beasts attacked the tribe, her beast-father had stepped forward to defend it. In order to protect the Wolf Tribe, he lost his life.

From that day on, the little female lost her clarity of mind and gradually went mad.

Every word spoken outside the cave reached Yue Ling's ears clearly.

She had eaten a fair amount of minced meat, and warmth slowly spread through her stomach. The icy weakness that had clung to her body eased slightly, returning a bit of strength to her limbs.

So the original owner's beast-father had done this tribe a great favor.

Yet after his death, these beastmen had treated his daughter in this way.

Yue Ling found it impossible to feel any goodwill toward them.

[999, I don't want to stay here.]

The way these beastmen treated the original owner was far too brutal—binding her, dragging her around, and even trying to force raw meat down her throat.

Now Yue Ling finally understood how the original owner had died.

Abused, stripped of the will to live, she had deliberately starved herself to death.

System 999's voice sounded with clear disapproval.

[No, Host. I've detected the presence of the first beast husband you are meant to seduce here. This body of yours is far too frail—you don't have the luxury of searching for a second candidate. If you leave recklessly, there's a very high chance you'll die on the way.]

Yue Ling: ...

She glanced at the half-bowl of minced meat still left beside her. A dull, burning ache spread through her stomach again—her fragile digestive system clearly couldn't handle such rich, high-energy food.

This body was truly weak.

[Host, in order to help you communicate with the beastmen, I will now imprint the Beast World language system into your consciousness.]

The moment System 999 finished speaking, Yue Ling felt as if a fine needle had pricked her brain.

[Is it done?]

[Yep.] System 999 replied proudly.

"The little female is awake. Take her back."

Having finished scolding them, the old shaman issued a clear dismissal.

Lang Zuo and Lang You quickly entered the cave. The moment they stepped inside, an unpleasant odor hit them head-on.

The stench came from the crazy female.

Outside the cave, only the old shaman and the old chief remained, exchanging looks. The old chief wore a placating smile.

Though he was the leader of the tribe, the most respected figure in the Wolf Tribe was, in truth, this venerable shaman.

A beastman skilled in healing was blessed by the Beast God—symbolizing the prosperity and continuation of the entire tribe.

Inside the cave, Yue Ling saw the two brothers at the entrance and instinctively curled inward, retreating slightly. Fear was written plainly on her face—especially toward Lang You.

Lang You snorted softly.

"Cra—female Yue Ling, I'll take you back to your cave."

Lang Zuo wore a shallow smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"Let's go."

The brothers exchanged a glance. They weren't sure whether this crazy female could understand them.

If she couldn't, they wouldn't hesitate to carry her back by force.

Yue Ling was genuinely frightened of them. She quickly climbed down from the stone bed. Seeing the filth she had left behind, she felt a flash of embarrassment.

Though her face burned red with shame, it was impossible to tell beneath the layers of blackened grime covering her skin.

How long had this body gone without bathing? It was filthy—and unbearably foul.

Lang You glanced at the stained animal hide on the stone bed, his brow twitching as disgust flashed unmistakably in his eyes.

This little female was simply too dirty.

Thankfully, in two more days, they wouldn't have to take care of this sloppy crazy female anymore.

Yue Ling followed behind the two brothers as they slowly exited the shaman's cave.

She turned back and looked at the elderly shaman with gratitude, then bowed politely.

"Thank you."

Both the old shaman and the old chief looked startled.

The crazy female was… surprisingly polite.

Seeing the brothers walking farther away, Yue Ling hurried to catch up.

Along the way, many beastmen cast curious glances in her direction. There were also several robust-looking females among them.

Each of them stood at least five foot nine, with wheat-colored skin and strong, healthy physiques.

Every female was surrounded by several male beastmen. When they looked at Yue Ling, their expressions were complicated—pity, sympathy, disdain, and disgust all mixed together.

Lang Zuo and Lang You led Yue Ling back to her cave.

The same familiar stench greeted them. At the cave entrance, the filth she had vomited earlier was still there.

Yue Ling glanced guiltily at Lang You's hands—then decided he had it coming.

"We'll bring you cooked food from now on," Lang Zuo said.

Lang You shot a sideways glance at the currently docile-looking crazy female.

"Don't run around. If you do, I'll catch you and tie you up in this cave forever."

Lang Zuo shot Lang You a warning look and added sternly,

"There are ferocious beasts in the mountains. If you encounter one, you'll be in danger."

Lang You crossed his arms and snorted.

"You're saying all this—do you really think this crazy female understands?"

Lang Zuo replied irritably,

"If she doesn't understand, then why are you saying so much nonsense?"

Lang You: ...

Yue Ling: ...

"I won't run around. I want to bathe. And I don't want to sleep here."

Yue Ling looked at the filthy, trash-filled cave. The thought of sleeping alongside rats, cockroaches, flies, and all kinds of disgusting insects made her feel like she would lose her mind.

The bickering brothers froze.

They had just heard an unexpectedly pleasant, clear, and gentle voice.

In the past, Yue Ling had only screamed or shouted, babbling nonsense they couldn't understand.

This was the first time she had ever expressed herself clearly and directly.

Staring at the two stunned brothers, Yue Ling calmly repeated her request.
