Maryann. Tyra. His concubines. None of them mattered now. For all I knew, Tyra was a concubine he didn't want, the others were here only because of his father. Maryann was history. No matter how much she had meant to him, she wasn't here—only I was.

A maid, but his personal maid. Someone who would always be at his side. If only for this moment, I had to show him he didn't have to be alone. I would do anything for that.

We stayed silent, his slow breathing brushing against my collarbone. I felt his body tremble, stiffen for a moment, but he didn't push me away.

The gentle breeze moved across our skin. I loved this quiet, when the chaos of the world faded, when one could breathe freely. I should have let the moment last. But curiosity pushed me forward.

"Did you know we would be attacked?" I asked.

King Harry sighed and leaned back. My lips pouted slightly at the empty air, at the space where he had been. He rested one hand on his chin, one brow raised as he looked at me.
