Chapter 26 - ~26~

"You're going the wrong way," he whispered.

A blush heated my cheeks. Instead of admitting it, I squared my shoulders. "I know that. I was just exercising my legs."

I brushed past him toward what I hoped was the right path, but he caught me within seconds, his hand circling my wrist.

"This way."

I closed my eyes and face-palmed. Great. I'd made a fool of myself twice, but his grip made the embarrassment fade. I actually liked it.

He led me out of the forest with a hold that was firm but surprisingly gentle. His fingers grazed my skin, perhaps unintentionally, but the contact made my legs wobble. I knew then I was in trouble if I didn't pull myself together.

Once we settled into the carriage, silence filled the small space. We kept stealing glances until I couldn't take the tension anymore and told him.

"Your phone," he said, a brow raised, his lips thinning into a line.

At least he pronounced it correctly this time.
