Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Layered Terraces and Pavilions

Just as Tsunade had said, what was an impossible task for Li Ke was, for Tsunade, merely a stroll behind the house.

Most importantly, she sat down with ease.

She could jump seven or eight meters away and five or six meters high. With a little effort, she could even jump directly from the bottom of a deep valley to the rooftop, leaving Li Ke dumbfounded.

He knew Tsunade was a ninja, and had witnessed the abilities of ninjas in anime, but seeing it in person revealed just how outrageous and awe-inspiring it was.

It could be said that if Tsunade hadn't frankly admitted that she could still get cut by knives and wasn't very good at defending against stabs, Li Ke felt she could have played a female version of Superman: Man of Steel.

The scenes seen in anime and the scenes seen in reality were truly two different experiences.

He was quite certain that if it weren't for her hemophobia, Tsunade wouldn't have to fear any zombie hordes at all. Even standing on a vast plain, she wouldn't encounter any danger.

Finally, in the afternoon, after four or five failed attempts, they managed to build a relatively safe place.

"Hmm, the rules of this world are really strange, but this is the limit we can achieve right now."

Looking at the small, five-meter by five-meter box in front of her, Tsunade shrugged helplessly. She had chosen this place only after various experiments, careful consideration, and a series of tests to ensure that no activity inside would cause it to collapse.

This room had no doors or anything like that; they planned to simply seal the doors with two steel blocks and then secure them with system blocks.

Around the walls, there were also windows specifically for shooting and ventilation, also made of deformed steel frames, allowing Li Ke and Kiri to continuously clear out zombies through them.

They planned to seal these areas with real-world steel blocks; after all, only in this way could they ensure absolute safety.

"While I think you're still a bit too afraid of those zombies, this thing really does look spectacular." Kiri nodded, looking at the house suspended in the wall.

"But it still gives me a feeling of unease."

She pointed to the gap between the pillar and the invincible wall.

"Even though I've tested it many times, I still feel like it's going to fall down."

"As long as we don't add any more blocks randomly, or the steel plates get punctured, it should be fine. But we do have a backup plan, don't we?"

Li Ke pointed to the un-dug soil beneath their feet. Tsunade was using her fists to plant materialized steel plates into the mound of earth below. This mound contained a tunnel and secret room they had previously dug. If the area fell, they could use this passage to directly reach the refuge below.

The reason they hadn't chosen this option immediately was quite simple.

There wasn't enough steel frame material. If it were all used to build the underground fortress, Li Ke worried that the endless zombies would dig through the foundations, causing the entire structure to collapse instantly.

So it was better to prepare for both possibilities.

Meanwhile, Kiri tried to repair the cement mixer, then helplessly shrugged, indicating she had boasted earlier.

Because there was no motor inside! No matter how skilled she is, she can't withstand this.

"Then it's time to build the trap."

Li Ke looked at the vast, pitted, hollow space, took a deep breath, and pulled out a large pile of gunpowder.

He first took out some wooden blocks and fixed them to the ground. Then he materialized some empty cans, put nails inside, filled the cans and wooden blocks with gunpowder, and then arranged them together.

Even more ruthless, he had spread nearly half a meter of gunpowder across a large area of land, then laid it on top of with wooden planks, intending to ignite the wood even if it didn't explode.

While doing this, he was also constantly crafting wooden spike traps—chevaux-de-frise made of sharp wooden planks—from his inventory, fixing them to the ground to form defensive lines in the center of the canyon.

"This guy's a bit paranoid... Anyone who walks in here unknowingly is definitely doomed..."

Kiri looked at Li Ke with a twitching eye; she genuinely thought he was overreacting.

"As long as he's happy, that's fine. Anyway, the mines here are almost exhausted, and we won't be spending much time here anymore."

Tsunade, who had already laid steel plates and barriers for the escape route below, didn't seem to care much; let Li Ke do what he wanted.

Although she didn't really think the zombies could be that powerful.

Time passed as Li Ke continued setting up traps. After lunch, Li Ke materialized some wooden planks and used them to make three beds and several partitions for the three of them to live in their steel house. He also brought two buckets of water into the house and moved the contents of their small wooden boxes to the side of the house.

Afterwards, at Li Ke's request, Tsunade and Kiri helped build some defensive structures and set up flammable materials so Kiri could easily ignite them with her gun later.

Most importantly, while the two women were cooking, Li Ke ruthlessly dug up the only path leading to the outside, completely isolating them from the zombies.

After all, they had convenient system blocks that they could easily lay out to leave.

Tsunade and Kiri merely pursed their lips, offering no comment, assuming Li Ke was being paranoid. After finishing their tasks, they took a shower and, with the money Li Ke had given them, bought a lot of food and beer, preparing for a feast. Li Ke didn't care about any of that. He continued laying out gunpowder until nightfall before finally returning to the steel hut, stepping on the blocks, to eat with Tsunade and the others.

Lying on his soft bed, Li Ke looked at the starry sky outside the window, feeling incredibly peaceful. Even though there was a 30-meter-deep abyss below, he had never felt so happy.

"There's still one more day. I can look for missions at the police station or something. American police stations should be heavily armed, and the emergency escape shelter below could be improved..."

He drifted off to sleep, clinging to hope for the future.

Then, just as midnight struck.

A sandstorm was blowing outside.
