The Morning After — Truths at the Table
The Tony Stark mansion was unusually quiet.
Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, glinting off half-finished schematics and empty coffee cups. Everyone had gathered in the living area—Tony, Pepper, Veronica, Gwen, Skye, Jennifer, Helen, and Natasha—all seated, all watching the man standing in front of them.
Alex didn't look dramatic.
That somehow made it heavier.
He rested his hands casually in his pockets and asked, calmly,
"Do you all know about Norse mythology?"
Tony raised a brow. "Pointy helmets, big hammers, daddy issues. Yeah."
Pepper nodded. Gwen and Helen followed. Natasha stayed silent, eyes sharp.
Alex exhaled once.
"Then I won't insult your intelligence by easing into this."
He met their eyes—one by one.
"My real name is Alexander Ashborn Odinson," he said.
"The youngest son of Odin All-Father."
"Prince of Asgard."
Silence slammed into the room.
Tony froze.
Pepper's mouth parted slightly.
Gwen whispered, "You're—"
Jennifer's pen slipped from her fingers.
Skye stared like she'd forgotten how to blink.
Veronica stood up so fast her chair scraped the floor.
"…Asgard?" she asked faintly.
Alex nodded.
Then, without changing his tone, he added,
"And I am also what the universe knows as the Dark Phoenix."
That—
That broke them.
Natasha's composure cracked for half a second. Helen sucked in a sharp breath. Skye muttered, "No way," under her breath. Gwen looked like she wanted to laugh and scream at the same time.
Veronica took a step closer.
"…That night," she said quietly.
"The accident. The truck."
Alex turned to her.
"Yes."
Her voice trembled. "It was you."
He nodded again.
Tony stood abruptly.
Then—unexpectedly—he stepped forward and placed a hand on Alex's shoulder.
"…Thank you," Tony said, voice rough.
"For saving my sister."
Alex inclined his head. "Always."
Alex continued before anyone could spiral further.
"I hold a title beyond Asgard. One that echoes across galaxies."
"A name that makes empires hesitate."
"A name spoken with fear… and respect."
He paused.
"Phoenix Monarch."
The weight of that name settled like gravity itself.
Pepper swallowed. "Aliens… know you?"
"Yes."
"How many?" Gwen asked weakly.
Alex considered it. "Most."
That earned a stunned laugh from Tony. "Of course they do."
Alex's gaze sharpened slightly.
"But this stays here," he said firmly.
"No press. No SHIELD. No world governments."
He looked at each of them in turn.
Tony. Pepper. Veronica. Gwen. Skye. Jennifer. Helen. Natasha.
"Promise me."
One by one, they nodded.
Even Natasha.
Skye hesitated, then raised her hand.
"…You said Hera and Aphrodite were your wives."
"Yes."
She blinked. "…The Greek ones?"
Alex smiled faintly. "The very same you're thinking of."
Tony leaned back, staring at the ceiling.
"…I don't know what annoys me more," he muttered.
"That you're a space god—or that you married Hera and Aphrodite."
Laughter finally broke the tension.
Pepper covered her mouth, Gwen snorted, even Natasha smiled faintly.
Tony shot Alex a look. "I mean, seriously. That's just unfair."
Alex shrugged. "I never claimed to be."
Tony grinned. "Any gossip? Something embarrassing?"
Alex's eyes gleamed.
"Well," he said casually, "Nick Fury has one of my badges."
Everyone froze.
"…What," Pepper said flatly.
"I lost it on a road years ago," Alex continued.
"Fury picked it up."
"Now he keeps it like an insurance policy—either to protect Earth or himself."
Tony burst out laughing. "So the scariest man on Earth is carrying your panic button?"
"Essentially."
The room erupted into laughter.
Natasha wiped her eyes. "I'm never letting him forget that."
Then she tilted her head.
"And the hammer in New Mexico?"
Alex sighed.
"My older brother," he said.
"Blond. Muscle-headed. About to be king."
"Messed up badly enough to make Father furious."
Tony smirked. "Let me guess. Daddy sent him to Earth?"
"For a trial," Alex confirmed.
Natasha leaned back, thoughtful.
"…This planet is not ready."
Alex smiled softly.
"No," he agreed.
"But it's protected."
And for the first time since the chaos began—
Everyone in the room truly believed it.
