Tony leaned forward on the couch, elbows on his knees, eyes gleaming with the kind of curiosity that always meant trouble.
"Alright," he said, pointing at Alex. "You can't drop Asgardian prince, Dark Phoenix, and universal boogeyman on us and not give gossip. I demand gossip."
Pepper sighed. "Tony—"
"No, no," Gwen cut in, grinning. "I agree. We deserve at least one ridiculous story."
Alex actually paused, thinking.
Then a faint, dangerous smile appeared.
"…Fine."
He looked straight at Tony and Natasha.
"You've both met this man."
They frowned.
Tony blinked. "Uh… Coulson?"
Natasha shook her head. "I don't think—"
Alex said calmly, "Nick Fury."
Both of them froze.
"…What?" Tony said.
Natasha narrowed her eyes. "Director Fury?"
Alex nodded. "That Fury."
Tony leaned back, confused. "Okay, I know the guy. Big coat. Bigger attitude. What about him?"
Alex tilted his head. "Do you know why aliens hesitate before acting on Earth?"
Natasha opened her mouth, then stopped.
Alex continued, voice casual, like he was talking about the weather.
"Years ago—during Fury's prime field days—I lost something."
Tony perked up. "You lost something?"
"Yes."
Pepper frowned. "Please tell me it wasn't a planet."
Alex smirked. "No. Just my Phoenix badge."
Everyone went quiet.
"…How do you lose that?" Skye asked.
Alex shrugged. "I was on a date with Aphrodite."
That alone caused half the room to groan.
Tony pinched the bridge of his nose. "Of course you were."
Alex continued, unfazed.
"I dropped it on the roadside without noticing. Fury found it."
Natasha stiffened. "He… picked it up?"
"Yes. He thought it was interesting. Heavy. Warm. Didn't look like any Earth alloy."
Tony muttered, "That's Fury. Zero self-preservation instinct."
Alex went on.
"A few days later, Fury was mediating a negotiation between Kree and Skrull forces."
The room tensed.
Pepper whispered, "Those are… not friendly negotiations."
"Correct," Alex said. "At one point, Fury leaned forward."
He mimed setting something down.
"And the badge fell from his pocket… onto the table."
Tony's eyes widened. "Oh no."
Alex smiled thinly.
"The moment they saw it—"
He snapped his fingers.
"—the Kree commander went pale.
The Skrull delegate started sweating.
And both sides nearly pissed themselves."
There was a beat of silence.
Then Gwen burst out laughing.
"You're kidding."
Alex shook his head. "They recognized it immediately."
Jennifer covered her mouth, trying not to laugh. "Recognized it as what?"
"As a sovereign mark," Alex replied.
"The personal seal of the Phoenix Monarch."
Natasha's breath hitched. "They thought Fury—"
"—was under my protection," Alex finished.
Tony lost it.
He doubled over, laughing. "Oh my god. Fury accidentally bluffing interstellar warlords with your lost property."
Pepper laughed despite herself. "That's… actually impressive."
Alex wasn't done.
"On another mission," he added, "an alien raiding force entered Earth's orbit."
Skye leaned forward. "What happened?"
"Fury showed them the badge," Alex said simply.
"They retreated within thirty seconds."
The room erupted.
Tony wiped tears from his eyes. "So Nick Fury's entire alien deterrence strategy is borrowed god terror?"
"Yes."
Tony slapped the arm of the couch. "I knew it. I knew he was cheating."
Natasha shook her head, stunned and amused. "He never told me this."
Alex glanced at her. "He wouldn't. It's his insurance."
Tony pointed at Alex. "You realize you accidentally made Fury the most protected man on Earth."
Alex shrugged again. "He picked it up. I never asked for it back."
Tony snorted. "That explains so much."
Then Tony leaned forward, eyes bright.
"…Can we see it?"
Alex hesitated for half a second—then nodded.
He raised his hand.
A faint pulse of heat rippled through the room.
The badge manifested above his palm.
It was obsidian black, forged as if from condensed night itself. A Dark Phoenix sigil spread its wings like a crown of dominion, sharp and angular, faceless and eternal. Ember-orange and molten crimson light pulsed within the carving, controlled flames that felt ancient and absolute.
The rotated diamond frame around it glowed faintly with rune-like geometry—laws, contracts, realms etched into existence.
The room fell silent.
No one laughed now.
They felt it.
Tony swallowed. "…You've got one hell of a logo, Alex."
Pepper nodded slowly. "It's… beautiful."
Jennifer whispered, "Terrifying."
Natasha stared, expression unreadable. "…Now I understand."
Alex let the badge fade.
The air relaxed instantly.
Tony leaned back, exhaling. "Yeah. Fury keeping that is officially the smartest thing he's ever done."
Alex smiled faintly.
"And the dumbest thing I ever lost."
The room laughed again—but softer this time.
Because now they understood.
Earth wasn't safe because it was strong.
It was safe because someone powerful cared.
