Chapter 1 - The House That Won't Quiet

If there were a contest for the noisiest house in the world, this house would win—no judges needed.

Not because of loud music.

Not because of noisy neighbors.

This house was loud because it complained.

"KRRRREEEEET—"

The front door screeched like it was protesting life itself.

Lexa stood in front of it, gripping her suitcase, her face pale like she'd just checked her bank account. She swallowed hard.

"Lexi…" she whispered. "This house breathes weird."

Lexi, her younger sister, just smiled and casually rolled her small suitcase forward.

"It's an old house, Sis. If it smelled nice, that would be scary."

The door opened by itself.

BANG!

Lexa jumped half a meter.

"THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, LEXI!!"

Lexi looked at the door and gently patted it, like calming an angry cat.

"Easy there, house. We're just staying for a bit."

The house creaked again—as if offended.

They stepped inside.

The chandelier immediately started swinging, even though there was no wind. Dust filled the air like a VIP welcome.

From somewhere deep inside came a sound.

Tok… tok… tok…

Footsteps.

They were clearly alone.

Lexa instantly turned on her flashlight.

The beam pointed straight up at the ceiling.

"…Uh?"

She flipped it.

Wrong way.

Lexi stared at her seriously.

"If a ghost saw you right now, they wouldn't be scared. They'd be confused."

"I'M NERVOUS," Lexa snapped.

Then—

A small laugh echoed.

Hihihi…

Lexa screamed.

"SOMETHING LAUGHED!"

Lexi sighed and pointed at an old wall clock.

The clock chimed… but its hands were spinning backward.

"Oh," Lexi said casually. "It's broken."

The clock stopped.

Then fell.

CRASH!

Lexa nearly passed out.

"BROKEN?! IT JUST TRIED TO SCARE US!"

In the corner of the room, a black shadow appeared—

—and immediately slipped and slammed into a cabinet.

BAM!

"…Ow."

Lexa and Lexi froze.

"…Did that ghost just say 'ow'?" Lexi asked.

The shadow slowly stood up, adjusted its crooked head, and ran off mumbling,

"Why do we always get humans like this…"

Lexi smiled.

"Sis."

Lexa trembled.

"Yeah?"

"I think…"

Lexi looked around the creepy house—cold air, strange noises everywhere.

"…this haunted house is going to get tired of us."

And up in the attic, unseen creatures stared at each other in silence.

This wasn't a house meant to scare humans.

This was a house about to be traumatized. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Silence.

Too much silence.

Lexa swallowed for the third time in one minute.

"Lexi…" she whispered. "Why did it suddenly go quiet?"

Lexi frowned.

"That usually means—"

BOOM!!

The windows slammed shut.

Lexa screamed first.

"I KNOW!!"

Lexi finished calmly,

"…something's about to fall."

The ceiling creaked.

KREEET… KREEET…

Dust drifted down.

Lexa shined her flashlight upward.

And right in front of them—

WHOOSH!

Something dropped from the ceiling.

Lexa screamed,

"A GHOST—"

PLOP.

It was an old shoe.

The shoe stood upright.

Still.

Then it twitched.

Lexa fainted for half a second.

"I'M DEAD."

The shoe shook, and a tiny voice came out.

"S-sorry… wrong timing…"

The shoe ran away.

Lexa sat back up.

"…Did that shoe just apologize?"

Lexi nodded.

"Pretty sure."

From behind a cabinet appeared a small gray furry creature with big eyes, wearing a robe that was way too long.

It trembled.

"A-are you humans…?" it squeaked.

Lexa pointed shakily.

"L-Lexi… is that a ghost?"

The creature screamed first.

"DON'T SCREAM!!! I'M SCARED!!!"

It covered its eyes, ears, and collapsed.

Lexi crouched down.

"Hi. Who are you?"

The creature peeked with one eye.

"I-I'm… Mbuluk…"

"What kind of ghost?"

Mbuluk nodded weakly.

"I-I'm a hallway guardian ghost… but I'm still an intern…"

Lexa blinked.

"…An intern?"

Mbuluk burst into tears.

"I keep failing my jump scares! I tried dropping from the ceiling, got stuck, and my shoe fell first…"

Lexi patted his shoulder.

"Hang in there."

Mbuluk sobbed harder.

"THEY'RE TOO NICE, IT MAKES ME MORE AFRAID!"

Suddenly—

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Someone pounded on the kitchen door.

Lexa screamed again.

"WHAT NOW?!"

Mbuluk hid behind Lexi.

"S-senior ghost…"

The door opened by itself.

A tall, massive shadow stepped out. Red glowing eyes. The air turned icy.

It stared at Lexa.

Then Lexi.

Then Mbuluk.

"…Huh?"

The shadow pointed at Lexi.

"Why is that human smiling?"

Lexi was holding back laughter.

The shadow took a step back.

"This… isn't in the script…"

Lights flickered.

JUMPSCARE!

"WAAAAAA—"

Lexa instinctively threw her suitcase.

THUD!

Direct hit.

The shadow collapsed.

"…Ow."

Silence.

Mbuluk whispered,

"He fainted…"

Lexi crossed her arms.

"I think this house picked the wrong targets."

Whispers echoed from the walls.

"They're not scared…"

"The girl is dangerous…"

"The guy screams but throws luggage…"

Mbuluk trembled.

"I-I want to move out…"

Lexa checked the time.

"Lexi… we just got here…"

"…ten minutes ago."

Lexi grinned.

"New record."

Deep within the house, a voice whispered:

"This isn't an ordinary haunted house…

This is a house that will regret it."

The lights went out.

Total darkness.

Lexa screamed.

"THE POWER—"

Lights came back on.

"…Oh."

A floating head popped out from behind the curtain.

"WOOOO—"

Lexa screamed again.

Lexi squinted.

"Hey, your head's upside down."

The head stopped.

Slowly twisted itself straight.

"Oh… right."

It floated away.

The floor shook.

A pale hand grabbed Lexa's ankle from under the carpet.

Lexa jumped.

"AAAA—"

The hand panicked.

"WAIT WAIT I'M NOT READY!"

It pulled back under the carpet amid arguing voices.

"Who grabbed first?!"

"We were supposed to do it together!"

"I GOT NERVOUS!"

The carpet went still.

Lexa was drenched in sweat.

"…What just happened to me?"

Lexi typed something into her phone.

"Fourth failed jump scare."

A mirror shattered.

A shadow crawled out—slowly… way too slowly.

Lexa waited.

"…Why is this taking so long?"

The shadow tripped.

THUMP!

"Ow…"

Mbuluk covered his eyes.

"I can't watch this…"

The ceiling opened.

A long white figure descended, hair covering its face.

The air froze.

Eerie music hummed.

"I will take your—"

Lexi tapped its shoulder.

"Uh, your hair's stuck in the fan."

WHRRRRAAAK!!

The hair got yanked.

"AAAAAA—"

The ghost ran away clutching its head.

"I'M TAKING A LEAVE!"

All the ghosts huddled in one corner.

Some crouched.

Some shook.

Some hugged their knees in trauma.

The senior ghost spoke quietly.

"In a hundred years…"

"…this is the first time humans didn't follow the horror flow."

Another ghost sobbed.

"They usually faint…"

"They're making comments…"

"The little one is taking notes…"

Mbuluk cried loudly.

"I wanna go back to the graveyard forest…"

Lexa whispered,

"Why do they look more scared than us?"

Lexi shrugged.

"Probably because…"

She grinned.

"…we're too relaxed."

Suddenly the whole house shook.

The walls beat like a heart.

A deep, ancient voice echoed.

"ENOUGH."

Every ghost froze.

"I WILL HANDLE THEM."

Mbuluk whimpered.

"That's… the Main Resident…"

A dark corridor opened.

Cold wind blew.

A massive shadow appeared.

Lexi smirked.

"Oh. Final boss."

Lexa swallowed.

"Lexi… can we still leave?"

The doors locked.

CLICK.

Lights shut off one by one.

Heavy footsteps approached.

THUD… THUD… THUD…

Lexi whispered with a smile,

"Well… this should be interesting."
