Chapter 45 - Chapter 45 – The End of the Dragon

The air screamed.

Unstable aura flooded the ruined city, warping light and sound alike. Cracks spread through the ground as pressure mounted—ancient, violent, wrong.

From above, a figure tore through the smoke.

Jane.

Her form was incomplete—scales flickering in and out along her arms, eyes blazing with a dragon's glow. Power rolled off her in wild waves, barely contained, barely controlled.

Shax barely had time to look up.

She hit him like a falling star.

The impact drove him to his knees, the ground collapsing beneath them. Purple blood spilled from his mouth as he coughed violently, his blade clattering uselessly across the stone.

"Is that—" Shax rasped.

Jane didn't let him finish.

Her fist slammed into his chest with devastating force. Magic and dragonfire surged together, tearing through armor, through resistance, through everything he was.

She leaned close, eyes burning with fury and grief.

"Go," she said, voice shaking with rage.

"To."

"Hell."

Power exploded.

Shax's body went limp, collapsing backward into the ruins. Purple blood spread across the broken ground as the last of his aura faded into nothing.

General Shax did not rise again.

Jane stood there for a moment, trembling—then the glow in her veins dimmed. Her strength faltered.

"Levi—"

She turned.

Across the street, half-buried beneath twisted metal and shattered concrete, lay Levi.

Jane ran.

She tore debris away with desperate hands, ignoring the pain as she dragged Levi free. Levi's wings were torn, feathers broken and soaked dark with blood. Her breathing was shallow, uneven.

Jane cradled her carefully.

"L-Levi…?" Jane whispered, voice breaking.

Levi's eyes fluttered open just enough to find her.

"Jane…" she murmured weakly. "W-why are you here…?"

Jane's tears fell freely now. "Y-you— you were going to die— I couldn't—" Her words collapsed into sobs.

Levi lifted a trembling hand, brushing Jane's cheek.

"Don't cry, little witch…" she whispered. "I—"

Her eyes closed.

Her body went still.

"Levi?" Jane said softly.

No response.

"Levi!" Jane cried, gripping her tightly. "Levi—please!"

The ruined city answered only with silence.
