Chapter 46 - Chapter 46 – When You Opened Your Eye

Levi drifted in darkness.

Not the violent, suffocating void of battle—but something quieter. Heavy. Still. Her body felt distant, wrapped in pain she could not quite reach.

Then—

Light.

Her eyes fluttered open slowly, vision blurred and unfocused. The ceiling above her was unfamiliar—simple, low, lined with faint cracks. Not stone. Not metal.

A room.

Levi inhaled sharply and winced. Pain bloomed across her body all at once. Her head was wrapped in thick bandages, her torso tightly bound, one arm secured against her side. Even her wings were carefully wrapped, each breath tugging against injuries that had not yet forgiven her.

She pushed herself upright with effort.

"…Jane," Levi murmured.

Her gaze drifted around the room.

It was small. Warm. Lived-in.

Books stacked unevenly near a desk. Magical components arranged carefully beside humming tech devices. A soft blanket draped over a chair—one Levi recognized immediately.

Then she noticed the wall.

Photographs.

Jane as a child, standing stiffly beside an older witch with a proud smile. Jane at university, glasses slipping down her nose as she laughed awkwardly. Jane with her friends—Mira, Ryn, Lena, Harrow—arms thrown around each other, battered but smiling.

Levi studied them quietly.

A life she had stepped into late.

"…This must be your apartment," Levi whispered.

The door creaked open.

Jane stepped inside, arms full—a bucket of water in one hand, a towel over the other. She froze mid-step when she looked up.

Their eyes met.

The bucket slipped from her grasp, water spilling across the floor as it clattered loudly.

"L-Levi?!"

Jane rushed forward instantly, dropping everything as she wrapped her arms around Levi, careful of the bandages but unable to stop herself.

"You're awake," Jane cried. "You're really awake—"

Levi stiffened in surprise, then slowly lifted her good arm, resting it gently around Jane.

"Of course, little witch," Levi murmured softly. "I wouldn't leave you so easily."

Jane's tears soaked into the fabric as she clung to her. "I thought—I thought I lost you…"

Levi rested her cheek against Jane's hair, breathing her in.

"…How long have I been asleep?" Levi asked quietly.

Jane pulled back slightly, wiping her eyes with her sleeve.

"Almost a month," she said.

The words settled heavily between them.

A month of waiting. A month of fear.

Levi closed her eyes.

"I'm sorry," she said.

Jane shook her head fiercely. "Don't. Don't ever say that."

Silence followed—not empty, but fragile and warm.

For now, they were here.

Together.
