Arya queried Springer about how he guessed that it was fish Nymeria was after. "A great many of these lads started out as fishermen. It's how they learned sailing. They know these waters and remember the fishing here. In their off time quite a few of them fish, as they kept their gear. Tom was a fisherman and he caught some fish earlier today, I doubt he washed his hands since. There were several fish caught today....well more than several. If I know Bart well we'll be having fish for dinner. Your wolf seems to like fish Salty."
Arya turned to the crew that was still watching. "A silver coin each for the first four big fish caught each day, let's keep Nymeria fed gentlemen." "If you please." As she ducked into the cabin door behind the ladies she could hear a wave of conversation spreading among the crew. Laughs and wagers were happening and some were asking to buy others fishing tackle. As the door closed she heard Tom saying "She almost ate me!"
When they got settled back in the cabin Beth and Calancy set at the table. Beth produced a book and she began to work with Calancy teaching her the language. Arya listened to their exchanges trying to pick out words the young girl said in her native tongue. At one point Calancy bolted upright from her chair staring intently at a shelf. She pointed at the crystal and then pointed at herself. Curiously Arya got up and handed the crystal to the girl. The girls face showed concentration as she held the stone. A faint glow emanated from the crystal, a faint blue light. "How did you do that?" "What is that crystal Calancy?" Arya stood questioning the girl. Calancy smiled and started "This is ..." She said a word in her language and looked at Beth. Beth shook her head because she couldn't decipher the meaning. The girl struggled and then poked her other hand upwards rubbing two fingers together. Small silver sparkles began to fountain up and then petered out. The girls face showed strain. "Magic?" Arya said incredulously. "Do you mean the crystal is magical?" The girl tried to say the word magic. She said "This magic." and rubbed her fingers together again. Arya dropped back on the bed and Calancy tried to hand the stone back to her. "For you Calancy." Arya pushed the stone back towards her with an amazed look on her face. Calancy had a look of wonder on her face and she lowered her head towards Arya. She hugged the stone to her chest happily, like she was holding a piece of her home far away.
Arya noticed that Nymeria had been watching the exchange closely. When her eyes caught Arya looking she gave a curious soft woof. A knock at the outer door produced Brienne ushering Bart in with their fish dinners. "I will see you ladies at the meeting after dinner is cleared away." As a second thought he bent down and produced a nice blue raw fish from the bottom of the cart. He placed it in a little wooden tray and set it on the floor. He pushed the tray towards Nymeria with his foot and stepped back. "I had the carpenter make her a tray to keep scales from being every where." Nymeria sniffed and pounced on the tray. Bart quickly departed. The ladies dug into their dinners.
