Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine

The mess hall was down a short stairwell which led to the first lower deck and opened into a wide hall way. All the way across the ship the hallway ended in a similar stairwell going both up and down. The hallway had three aft doors on one side, that were captains cabins and two smaller doors on the forward side. Then there was a large opening into the mess hall. The hallway was packed with crew. They all wanted to hear this meeting. Springer came out of one of the aft doors, looked around and ordered. "Clear a path for the ladies you louts. You can listen but I'll have the first of you that interrupts in irons. Not a sound mind you."

Brienne, Arya and Calancy walked into the mess hall and all eyes were upon them. Springer set down in his chair and motioned to three open chairs on the other side of the table. "Sit and we will begin." Arya saw Thomas and Gendry against one wall, Bronn and Tormund stood near them. Bart came out of his kitchen wiping his hands on his apron. Dirk stood and coughed and said. "Those of you seated please introduce yourselves and we will get this meeting started." The man next to Arya muttered his name and job and they went all around the table back to her. Arya stood and looked around the room.

"My name is Arya Stark and my brother is Bran Stark who sits upon the Iron Throne in Kings Landing." She caught herself and laughed a little, ..."Well he sits beside it in his wheel chair. What you may not know is that Bran is the Three Eyed Raven as well. He's tied into the very magic of the land, he gets visions of the past and future. He summoned all of us because of troubling visions of a danger to the Seven Realms from the West. And young Calancy here was found floating in a small boat several days to the west from here. Her home is some where in that very west we must visit. We are tasked with seeing her home and discovering the nature of this danger..if we can." Arya got a wistful look in her eyes going silent for a few beats, "Make no mistake this is a monumental task, I sailed west a year ago and ten days out our ship was destroyed in a storm. Almost everyone perished. I am dependent on every one of you here to see this through. I know this and I thank you all for your service. I'd very much like to see us all sail back home again after we've finished." She sat back into her chair hard. Several men began talking at once.

"Bang." Captain Portsmith slammed his cup on the table. "We will have order here!" Young Thomas interjected. "If I may." He began spreading a large out on the table. There were lines from the top to the bottom that got closer to each other the further north and south they went. The western side of the Seven Realms was drawn in but the rest was blank. Captain Dirk ventured "Aye a blank map is a big help." Thomas replied. "Perhaps our young charge could make a mark where she thinks home is. I spoke to the fisherman that found her and there is a mark for where we are now and where she was found on this map"

Arya turned to Calancy. "Will you try to mark home?" She pointed to the map and drew an x in her hand saying home again. Brienne helped lift Calancy up on the table and she walked over to the map. Thomas handed her a stylus. Calancy moved the map around and toward her some. She could see the course of their ship marked in days with a thin line connecting small circles. She saw where the mark was for when she had been rescued. She started counting days on her fingers and measuring the distance on the map. She drew three small circles in a line and then a large one further away from the other small islands. She put an x on the larger island. She pointed to the largest circle and said "Enemy." Then much farther to the west, at the edge of the map she sketched the outline of a continental coast. She did this quickly but with high attention to detail. Near the very bottom of that coastline she marked an x and said, "Home."
