Chapter 26 - Meetings, Murder Plans, Antarctica, and the Author Naming Things Again

Meetings are dangerous.

Not because of vampires.

Not because of werewolves.

Because everyone thinks their idea is reasonable.

We were gathered in the Cullens' living room.

Again.

Same couch.

Same overly polite seating arrangement.

Same tension pretending to be diplomacy.

Cullens on one side.

Quileute representatives on the other—Sam, Emily, Leah (very much present and very much bonded), a few wolves standing guard outside because subtlety had officially died.

And me.

Sitting in the middle like the universe's worst mediator.

I cleared my throat.

"So," I said, "about the mission."

The Main Quest Briefing (a.k.a. Why Peace Is Hard)

"I told the Cullens," I continued.

Carlisle nodded calmly. "We told the Quileute elders."

Sam crossed his arms. "We're listening."

Scáthach leaned against the wall, arms folded, smiling like this was a gladiator match instead of diplomacy.

The system hovered invisibly, very proud of itself.

"Main quest," I said, glancing at everyone.

"Prevent a war between muggles and supernaturals."

Emily frowned. "There isn't a war."

"Yet," I replied. "That's the fun part."

Edward tilted his head. "You already know the cause, don't you."

"Not yet," I said. "But the system does."

As if summoned by arrogance—

SYSTEM PROCESSING…

[Scanning Twilight World…]

[Analyzing Causality Threads…]

[Cross-referencing Government Black Projects…]

Alice stiffened.

"Oh," she said softly. "That's not good."

First Meeting Conclusions (Mostly Civilized)

Carlisle spoke first. "If humans are approaching discovery, negotiation may be—"

Rosalie cut in. "—a disaster."

Sam nodded. "Humans don't negotiate from fear. They experiment."

Leah muttered, "Or dissect."

I smiled thinly.

"You're all thinking too optimistically."

They turned to me.

"I'm thinking," I continued, "that someone already crossed the line."

SYSTEM ALERT (THE BAD KIND)

Right as the meeting was about to wrap up—

The shadows under my feet twitched.

Not mine.

Independent.

Scouts.

Every shadow soldier I'd sent drifting through the world froze simultaneously.

Information slammed into my mind.

Cold.

White.

Ancient.

Buried.

I leaned forward slowly.

"…Found it."

The Fuse of War

Everyone went silent.

Edward's eyes sharpened.

Alice's smile vanished.

Sam leaned forward.

"Where," Carlisle asked carefully.

I exhaled.

"Antarctica."

That got reactions.

Emily blinked. "The… continent?"

"Underground," I clarified.

"Buried in ice. Deep."

Scáthach's smile widened. "Good hiding place."

"Government lab," I continued.

"Black project. International funding."

Edward stiffened. "They're researching us."

"Not just you," I replied.

"Supernaturals. Vampires. Werewolves. Anomalies."

Leah's jaw tightened.

Sam growled softly.

"And," I added, "they're close."

The room went very quiet.

Opinions, Because Everyone Has One

Carlisle stood. "Then we should negotiate."

Rosalie scoffed. "With humans cutting creatures open?"

Sam shook his head. "Observation first. Learn what they know."

All eyes turned to me.

I didn't hesitate.

"We kill them," I said calmly.

"Every researcher. Every soldier. Every file. Then we collapse the lab and erase the ice shelf."

Silence.

Alice stared at me.

"…That escalated."

"That solves the problem," I replied.

Carlisle looked pained. "Adam—"

"They started it," I cut in. "This isn't defense. It's prevention."

Leah didn't disagree.

Scáthach nodded approvingly.

Alice, The Voice of Chaos (and Reason)

Alice suddenly perked up.

"Oh!" she said brightly.

Everyone turned to her.

She smiled at me.

"Why don't we just… move everyone?"

I frowned. "Move who."

"All supernaturals," she said, like it was obvious.

Edward blinked. "What."

Alice pointed at me.

"You said his personal dimension is as big as planet Earth."

I froze.

"…I did."

"And it's safe," she continued. "Hidden. Outside time."

I stared at her.

"You're suggesting—"

"Evacuate," she finished. "All of us."

Vampires.

Werewolves.

Others.

Into my world.

Sam looked conflicted.

"That would abandon the land."

Rosalie crossed her arms. "Or save our people."

Carlisle looked thoughtful. "It would avoid bloodshed."

I opened my mouth—

To say no.

SYSTEM NOTIFICATION (INTERRUPTING GOD MODE)

Reality flickered.

The system did not chime.

It announced.

[Author Override Detected.]

I closed my eyes.

"…Of course."

SYSTEM MESSAGE

(Author Note):

I named that world.

[Personal Dimension Designation Updated.]

World Name: Model–Monster World

I blinked.

"…That's the name?"

Scáthach laughed.

Lily tilted her head. "Model–Monster?"

Petunia sighed. "Authors should not be allowed to name things."

Alice clapped. "I like it!"

Rosalie smirked. "Sounds dangerous."

Leah looked at me. "You live in a world called that?"

"I didn't choose it," I muttered.

The Meeting Ends… For Now

The room buzzed with tension.

Negotiation.

Observation.

Extermination.

Evacuation.

Four paths.

All bad.

All necessary.

I leaned back.

"Second meeting," I said.

"Tomorrow."

Everyone nodded.

As they filtered out, Scáthach leaned close.

"You prefer the blade," she murmured.

"I prefer certainty," I replied.

She smiled.

"And Alice prefers impossible solutions."

I glanced at the empty doorway.

"…That's what scares me."

The shadows stirred.

Antarctica waited.

And somewhere under the ice—

Humans were digging toward monsters.
