Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Hints and Morning Routines

Chapter 4: Hints and Morning Routines

The morning routine at Vanguard Solutions had become its own little dance, a daily choreography so predictable that it made Alex chuckle every time he thought about it. He had his own established order: wake up at seven, work out for thirty minutes, shower, grab a quick breakfast, and then head to the office by eight. But there was always a sense of eagerness that tinged each day, especially with the new layers he and Victoria were weaving into their interactions.

Victoria, on the other hand, had a morning routine that could rival a Hollywood starlet preparing for a red carpet. By the time Alex arrived at the office, he could imagine her waking up around five-thirty, doing yoga while listening to soothing music, followed by a meticulously crafted breakfast that probably involved avocado toast artfully placed on a pristine plate.

"Hey, did you notice how much effort Victoria puts into her morning smoothies?" Alex laughed with John as they wandered into the break room one morning.

"Smoothies? Dude, I thought she had a degree in smoothie-making," John replied, grinning. "I bet there's a secret ingredient. Like… confidence? Healthy fat from avocados and pure ambition?"

"Or maybe a dash of flirtation for extra flavor!" Alex added, eyebrows waggling playfully.

As they stood there, exchanging banter, Alex couldn't help but overhear Victoria chatting with a colleague a few desks away. "I just love starting my day off with a good workout and a delicious shake. It's all about that energy!" she said, her voice carrying through the office like a siren song. Alex glanced at John, who was busy pouring himself coffee, and put on a mock-serious expression.

"Dude, we need to incorporate some 'energy' into our morning routines. Like, smoothies or… dance battles?"

"Dance battles?" John snorted, nearly spilling his coffee. "Is that your secret to drawing Victoria in? I can see it now: 'Welcome to the corporate dance-off! Winner gets a smoothie date with the boss!'"

"Hey, it's all about the creativity, my friend!" Alex laughed, but part of him was serious. He couldn't shake the feeling that Victoria's interest in him went deeper than professional camaraderie.

A few days later, as the sun crested over the city skyline, Alex dared to hope for a little extra interaction with Victoria. He found himself in the break room, sipping his morning coffee when Victoria walked in, dressed in another one of her stylish yet casual outfits that accentuated her legs.

"Good morning, Alex!" she beamed, her voice melodic. "How's the world of marketing treating you today?"

"Pretty good! Just trying to figure out how to make smoothies as complicated as your breakfast," he replied, flashing a playful grin.

"Oh, come on! It's not that complicated," she said, leaning against the counter, her body language suggesting ease. "Just toss in a few greens, throw in some fruits, and *bam*—you're a smoothie boss!"

"Sure, but let's not forget your secret ingredient: charm!" Alex teased back. He thought he saw the hint of a blush on her cheeks, but she quickly covered it up with laughter.

"Charm, huh? Maybe I should bottle that up and market it! 'Victoria's Secret Charm: Guaranteed to Boost Your Day,'" she quipped, clearly enjoying their back-and-forth.

This rapport was not lost on him. As they exchanged smiles, he felt a deeper connection—like they were flirting around with something unspoken yet tangible.

"By the way," Victoria leaned in slightly, her voice lowering conspiratorially, "if I ever look like I'm trying to get someone's attention, just know it's *totally* intentional."

Alex's heart raced, and he tried his best to maintain a neutral expression. "Oh really? Should I look out for ominous signs then?"

"Definitely!" she laughed, her eyes sparkling. "You might want to keep a record of my 'not-so-subtle' hints."

"Noted! Starting today!" he said, trying to sound serious but bursting into laughter as he watched her roll her eyes playfully.

Meanwhile, John's love life remained a point of focus for Alex, who was determined to help his friend make a move on Jenna, the receptionist. "You've got to just ask her out," Alex urged one day during their lunch break.

"I don't know, man. What if she says no? It's a real risk!" John replied, a hint of anxiety creeping into his voice.

"Life's all about risks. Just think of it like stocks—sometimes it's up, sometimes it's down, but you never know until you try!" Alex said, trying to channel his inner motivational speaker.

"And if I crash and burn?" John asked, though he couldn't hide a small smile, clearly getting into the spirit.

"Then we'll make sure to buy matching 'I survived a date with Jenna' t-shirts, and we can laugh about it over more smoothies!" Alex replied, teasingly nudging John's shoulder.

"I suppose that's one way to look at it," John laughed, but Alex could see there was a flicker of hope in his eyes.

One afternoon, as the sun dipped low and the office was slowly clearing out, Alex found himself alone with Victoria. "So, any plans for the weekend?" she asked, leaning back in her chair, her demeanor relaxed.

"Actually, I might check out the new art exhibit downtown. Ever been?"

"Oh, I love art! You should invite me; I could use a splash of inspiration!" Victoria said, a mischievous smile creeping onto her lips.

"Are you hinting at something again?" he asked, half-jokingly.

"Maybe," she replied with a playful glint. "Just think about the beauty of mixing art and charm!"

The irony hung in the air, and both realized that there was something undeniably brewing between them.

With every shared moment—jokes exchanged over smoothies, sly hints dropped, and encouragement for John—it was clear that life at Vanguard Solutions had transformed into a playful drama unfolding in real time. And as Alex carried this delightful complexity into his days, he recognized that every layer brought him closer to a heart-pounding decision that awaited him just around the corner.
