Bella's POV

The steward flashed a fawning smile. "If Your Highness finds this disagreeable, I'll have them ejected immediately."

Helena snorted with disdain. "What good would that do now? The place has already been contaminated—as if I'd want it back!"

Watching Helena sulk like a petulant child, I stepped in to calm her. "Probably just some ignorant merchant who leased the spot. Why waste energy on such people, Your Highness? Besides, those hot springs are quite a distance from here—you'd freeze before making it back. This intimate little retreat is far superior, warm and perfectly furnished."

My single comment instantly brightened Helena's mood.

She bobbed her head enthusiastically. "Exactly right, Bella."

After our long day of travel, Helena and I shared an evening meal before retreating to our separate rooms.

I slept deeply that night.

Dawn hadn't broken when I stirred awake.

Maybe the climate here didn't quite agree with me.
