Chapter 14 - Fallen Paths

It was safe to say that there was nothing Lenny didn't know in the Regulator's society.

At least before the time Great House Night fell.

He knew the history of the Regulator's society, he understood a bit more about the Fallen Realm.

And about humanity itself.

The existence of the Great Houses was known to the rest of humanity. There was once a time when thirteen brave soldiers were worshipped by the world.

Treated as heroes for venturing into the Fallen Realm, being the first to conquer their First Apocalypse.

And return with great knowledge that tether humanity to its stability and evolution.

The existence of the Regulator's society when the thirteen Great Houses decided to spread their knowledge.

Helping those who were cursed by the Fallen Realm yet blessed to carry its Runes.

Despite humanity's population ranging to ten billion.

The number of Fallen Regulators was lesser than two hundred thousand, all scattered across the globe.

Having their resources controlled and monopolized by the Great Houses.

Every year, tens of millions of youngsters are cursed to be carriers of the Fallen Realm.

Participating in Awakening Ceremonies and awakening their Fallen Runes.

Those brave enough accept the Call of the Fallen Realm on the night of their Awakening while others delay their call.

Or wait until they clocked 18.

Those who were unfortunate not to participate in any Awakening Ceremony remained as carriers until their 18th birthday.

The First Apocalypse was dangerous, a mysterious aspect that even the Great Houses failed to predict.

Millions of Awakeners and Carriers perish during the conquest of their First Apocalypse.

Those with the strongest wills survived and evolved into a Rank 1 Fallen Regulator.

This is the reason why Fallen Regulators were cherished by everyone, regardless of how weak or useless their Fallen Runes may seem to be.

Lenny logged into his personal account, which the Government had created for him.

He was quickly granted access into the Association's website.

There are only three official branches of the Regulator's society.

The first is the Great Houses, the second is the Government and the third is the Regulator's Association.

Each branch works together to produce more talents in the Regulator's society.

Fallen Regulators were given the chance to serve one of the three branches, the Great Houses held the highest authority.

But they were shrouded in secrecy and had too many rules, too many restrictions.

Under the leadership of the Great Houses, the Lesser Houses ruled.

The Government were also the same, yet they have lower status compared to the Great Houses in terms of authority in the Regulator's society.

The difference between them is that the Government controls Planet Earth and its inhabitants.

While the Great Houses focus their attention on the Fallen Realm.

Dominating sanctuaries, and forcing Fallen Regulators to bow, whether willingly or not.

The Regulator's Association was created by both the Great Houses and the Government.

All active Fallen Regulators needed to register themselves as Players of the Fallen Realm.

The Association possesses all information and data of all Fallen Regulators under humanity's banner.

Under the Association exist the Guilds.

Private organizations created to train and manage Fallen Regulators, there are hundreds of Guilds scattered across the planet.

Many Fallen Regulators willingly follow Guilds due to the sweet benefits they offer.

Unbeknownst to the Regulator's society, these Guilds were controlled by Lesser Houses who were vassals to the Great Houses.

Lenny knew this fact, because after all….he was once a member of a Great House.

Only Great House Night had no vassals under them.

They ruled only a single sanctuary in the Fallen Realm, and had only an island to their name on Planet Earth.

Yet they were the most feared Great House within the Regulator's society.

Even the other Great Houses feared them because of the Fallen Path they had.

*

Lenny was disappointed by the information he had received. He sighed softly, "It seems nothing has changed since the time the Nights were gone." He shook his head.

He lay back on his seat, and the laptop's screen shimmered before his eyes.

His lips suddenly curled up, "It looks like those old geezers are planning on stagnanting the growth of the Regulator's society"

"Not making them ascend into the higher plains." He wasn't surprised; the Great Houses needed to remain in control of the society.

Why would they let the younger ones grow?

His attention drifted towards something else, his private information.

Most of his information was correct, his name, his age, his height, his last name, and others.

Only a few spots were empty.

He was yet to complete them, to fill information on his Fallen Runes, their Rune Classes, and Fallen Ranks.

This information will be recorded in the Association's database.

Once it was complete.

The Great Houses will be aware of it, "What are you going to do? Lenny" A voice asked.

Lenny slightly tilted his head to see a young boy standing behind him, with his arms folded.

Lenny chuckled, "You're back huh?" He asked, the boy smirked "Of course I am, I just waited for that Fallen Regulator to leave that's all"

His eyebrows furrowed, "So what are you going to fill? Will you expose your Fallen Runes to the Great Houses?" The boy asked.

Lenny chuckled, "What do you think I am? A fool?" A dark grin appeared on his lips, "I need them to underestimate me for now"

"Are you forgetting that man will also be watching me?" He asked.

The boy's expression darkened, "Ah, how could I forget? So will you be choosing our exclusive Fallen Path?" The boy asked.

Lenny nodded, "Yeah, at least I need them to believe I'm not really a threat to them," He explained.

In the Regulator's society, it's widely known that there are fifteen Fallen Paths.

Fallen Paths were groups that categorized and differentiated Rune Classes from each other.

Fallen Runes and Rune Classes were versatile, it wasn't something restricted to an individual.

Even the inhabitants of a city could awaken a single Fallen Rune, not to mention a family.

Fallen Runes and Rune Classes were transferable, making them hereditary as they could be passed down from generation to generation.

This is how the Great Houses were able to maintain the balance of power, and control.

The reason why the Great House Night was feared even amongst the Great Houses was because of the Shadow Path.

After all, outside their existence….

No one was lucky enough to awaken the Shadow Path, it was just like they were created to control the Shadow Path.

This was why after House Night fell.

The Shadow Path went extinct.

Lenny, who wasn't able to awaken a Shadow Path Fallen Rune, was deeply interested in his family's legacy.

So he was going to deceive the world by making the Shadow Path his primary Fallen Rune.

He received the whisper of the Fallen System, seconds later….the transparent crimson panel appeared before his eyes.
